Didn't Crystal Kay and others release something in the US and failed to get much recognition? People already in the US have a hard time making it big, so I wouldn't expect it to be a walk in the park for someone from another country to waltz in and hit the charts immediately. If you're an Asian born and raised in the US, you've just gotta rock your target genre and keep trying. About the westerns not finding asians that attractive, I beg to differ I've heard more people having an "asian-fetish" than any other kind (race-wise)But the asian-fetish u usually hear guys say the for the asian girls, not the other way around usually. Someone might ask as asain chick out, but maybe not see an asian movie with subbtitles. |

America's history of racism against minorities has been appalling. Afro Americans were brought to this country in bondage and held in slavery for over eleven generations. Even after the abolition of slavery, blacks were treated as non-citizens. It wasn't until the Civil Rights Act in the sixties that blacks were granted the basic rights of a human beings. Over one hundred years ago, blacks owned 1% of the wealth in this country. One hundred years later blacks still own only 1% of the wealth in this country. American exterminated over 90% of the Native Americans. The trail of tears campaign against the native americans was organized murder against the very people that were the first americans. Asian americans have a history of abject racism going back to the dehumanizing days of the railroad construction where millions of Asians died and to the incarceration of Japanese americans in world war 2.

I'm a Filipino, and I know a lot of bands and artists in the Philippines, and I think that they're really good. I also think that they're better than some of the American artists. But Jasmine Trias is a different situation, she just joined the American Idol and luckily, she was on 3rd place. But she's still not that popular with the Americans. I also listen to Korean and Japanese music too, and they're not bad either. Eventhough I can't understand it. I think that only a few Asian artists will only make it big in America. Hell, they think they're superior. So there's nothing we can do about it. It's good though, that the Asians appreciate each other's music. Hopefully, someday, Asians can make it big in America. yeah I get what you mean... its like the Nazi Philosophy but hey some can really outperform the Americans its just that a big factor is home turf -_- |

Wow, a good point brought up by the OP.
I'm not very learned about the American scene or the music industry, but I have to agree with the racial differences in America (as well as other countries, like here in Australia). Asians tend to stick to themselves, and trust their own race more so than other people, and the same would apply to Americans/Australians/Africans,etcetc. Since Asian families would have once been migrants to the country, they wouldn't have much of a standing amongst large businesses and stuff such as the entertainment industry. But now that time is passing, that's all changing, obviously. Furthermore, theres probably tons of people keeping the record companies and other parts of the industry busy for every talent to be found, and seeing as a majority of America is White, it would make sense. Also probably because of differences in what music they like. Being Asian myself, I, at times, prefer Asian music, and that would definitely not help me debut in a country such as America, or Australia. Along with that, I don't like rock music, and that seems to be what Western countries are into at the moment, which is also very different to the majority of the Asian music going around. I guess racism COULD play a part in the subject, but I doubt it's that big a deal as to be deemed a main reason. Talent is all the same, as are human vocal chords. (you get what I mean, if not, don't take it literally) I'm sure most talent-seekers know what they're looking for, and it's not a certain race. Eh, thats what I think, correct me if I'm wrong. |

oh this is nifty

Well first no one will understand that why....

i doubt it's racism...how come other country's music industry doesn't do well?? mostly because they don't speak english. more people can relate to the song and understand it if they know the language the song is in. sure, i like asian music, but i don't know like, 95% percent of the words, so i really don't understand the full meaning of it. it would be the same if i listened to a song in, oh say, swedish or something

I think it's because americans are only interested in americans. Though there is lots of exceptions but mostly thats because american ppl can call them american.

i don't know.. maybe because Asians mostly make songs of their own language?
