because William Hung has forever ruined the idea of Asian singers in American's minds!

seriously though, I think Asian artists are on the verge of a breakthrough. The term "tipping point" has become pretty popular lately, and I think that's exactly where Asian music is headed towards as far as mainstream acceptance in America: when it finally happens, the growth will be exponential.

Just look: recently, Ellen Degeneres had a 14 year-old Filipino girl on her show and was going nuts over her (Charice Pempengo). Time magazine a little while back did an article on Rain. These are just early signs. More and more I'm seeing independent Asian-American artists in my locale getting attention and record deals from groups that don't just specifically cater to Asians.

So I optimistically believe an Asian wave will hit America pretty soon...I just feel bad for some of the older, fantastically talented artists who may not get to fully capitalize on it.

Not since the "sukiyaki" song which made it to like #2 quite a while ago. I bet youll recognize the melody, just youtube it. I think americans (like me) are just to lazy to look outside their comfort zone of american or british music. Language is also a problem...

I can't be certain why they can't make it big in America, but I hope they do someday so I don't have to wait 3 weeks or more for my favorite artists CD's. (I prefer them over mp3 because the quality is better)

I know none of Friends really don't know about Asian artists until I introduce to the artist.
BoA is a good example. Many of my friends like her because she is able to sing in English.
But I do not think she will ever release a CD here in the USA. It is sad that no Asian artist
has never really gotten into the US market.

I think that asian artist cant make it big in america b/c of the type of music b/c rap is real popular in america right now and no one really listens to that much pop and u dont really see any pop band in america anymore only rock bands.

Just a question thats been on my mind for a while...
I live in america and ive never see any asian artists debut in america...
Why is that so? are we not as popular? or people just arent interested..?

Its not that the US is not as popular, its for various reasons. One is that the Asian music artists dont advertise and market themselves here, like they do in Asia. -- also, its not that people here dont except it, Its just that Asia is the only part of the world where that type of music is big. So when it really comes down to it, Asia is kinda singling themselves out. And lastly, this has been brought up many times, but very few people here would understand it.

actually.. alot of asian singers come to america to perform and stuff... but they never stick because they tend to go back to their countries because they only do like... short term debut? xD idkkk....

I agree with the English part - you've gotta be understandable, as well as standing out. Didn't Crystal Kay and others release something in the US and failed to get much recognition? People already in the US have a hard time making it big, so I wouldn't expect it to be a walk in the park for someone from another country to waltz in and hit the charts immediately. If you're an Asian born and raised in the US, you've just gotta rock your target genre and keep trying.

About the westerns not finding asians that attractive, I beg to differ I've heard more people having an "asian-fetish" than any other kind (race-wise)
