Only seen the first minute, and I swear that lady has told me the food we eat is poisonous half a dozen times already. I don't think I'm going to enjoy watching this...

First comment:
The food we eat causes early death. Riiiiiiiiggghhht... This is why life expectancy has been rising practically non stop for the past 100+ years, because dying early causes you to live longer!

Second comment:
The lady doesn't know what an "addictive chemical" is. Only ONE of the chemicals she listed is actually known to be addictive: caffeine. If you are addicted to caffeine, not having caffeine causes withdrawal symptoms. If you are "addicted" to fast food, you don't suffer any withdrawal symptoms other than starvation, which is normal when you don't eat food anyways. Case in point: someone who is "addicted" to fast food and has a craving can easily satisfy that craving with healthy alternatives. E.g. replacing sweet drinks and candy with fresh fruit, or replacing burger and fries with a hearty, balanced meal. Notice how when you do this, you don't get headaches, become irritable or collapse on the floor in seizures. That's because a "craving" is no more of an addiction than watching your favorite anime, playing your favorite game or spending time with your best friends. Yeah, there is an element of psychology there, but there's an element of psychology behind EVERYTHING.

Third comment:
Companies stuff toxic chemicals in food. The chemicals she mentioned are not actually toxic, but can cause a "pseudoallergic" reaction in a very small percentage of people. They are known to accentuate (but not cause!) symptoms of hyperactivity in a very small percentage of children. And of course bleach is toxic - in high enough quantities. The studies which indicated adverse effects of benzoyl peroxide used concentrations in excess of 50,000 parts per million. The concentration used to bleach flour? 40 parts per million.

EDIT: How small is a "very small percentage"? 0.12% For comparison, more than ten times that number of people are allergic to peanuts (1.30%). Strangely enough, these people aren't calling peanuts "toxic chemicals", despite the fact that the allergic reactions for peanuts are far stronger, and far more people are allergic to them.

Fourth comment:
Organic compounds don't "accumulate". Your liver metabolizes that stuff pronto. Heavy metals are the toxic chemicals which accumulate in your body over time. That's why we don't use lead paint or mercury in thermometers/barometers anymore.

Always knew this.

Don't have enough money to eat properly though, or time. Thems the crap shoot of working and being a student.

I really want to get into way more healthy stuff, but it seems it costs money or time...perhaps one day when I'm more settled down. Hopefully I'm not dead by then. >.>;

Why Americans are fat:

1) Economy- low income families can only afford non-nutritive garbage that will never substitute REAL food. Also, since people are getting laid-off and pay checks are being slashed, expect more and more low income families.

2) Artificial sweeteners- corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, saccharin, aspartame, cyclamate, etc. - all byproducts of chemical compounds not intended for human consumption. The food industry wants to cut costs for sugar by replacing them with artificial sweeteners so that their products can be affordable to consumers. They will really f-up your body.

3) Our large portions- We eat too much. We eat large portions often with more than one helping of some of the worst stuff you can put inside your body. We also consume too much fatty foods and red meat which is linked to cancer.

4) Our sedentary lifestyle- not a lot of Americans get enough physical activity which promotes adiposity.

The dose determines the poison.

IE. Everything is poison in the right amounts.

Great point! The chemical make-up of broccoli is considered poisonous when fed to lab animals in unnatural doses. But take into account also the GMO issue within the U.S. 95% of all commercial wheat and soybeans are GMO foods. Has anyone noticed the rise in Celiac's Disease within the U.S. along with the ever growing growth of gluten-free foods.

A lot of the stuff in the video was common sense... and some of it seemed made up, also they did not provide sources for a lot of the crap they seemed to be ass pulling.

- food is deteriorating, almost all of it has hidden chemicals to prolong it that are not meant for human consumption and have bad side effects on us, most of them not noticed because many grow up on them and know no different ( a healthy diet ). They're genetically modified for reasons not regarding your health. Life expectancy is up because of the use of western medicine and the corrupt pharmaceutical company that sells drugs that treat something but don't cure it, if someone became ill before they would suffer more and had a greater chance of dying because for serious infections and disease there were no suitable cures, western medicine has both benefits and negatives.

I'm still going to stand by my statements. Yes, the rising life expectancy is due primarily due to advances in medicine. But it only goes to show that there are far more important things to be worrying about than so called "toxic food", which is declared to be toxic by individuals who have no training in toxicology.

your diet is very important actually.

I don't think humans know enough about diet and nutrition to make conclusions about how specific foods consumed in specific ways contributes to an individual's health. Though it does seem unwise to eat foods that have been treated with relatively new chemicals/additives or foods that are genetically modified to produce their own poisons to repel insects and grow abnormally quickly.

Except being more expensive... there is no research demonstrating that organic is superior...

Organic is just a unique way of farming... not a better one...
