what makes an anime great is when the creator is able to sit there and make you laugh until you pee your pants then in the same episode make you cry your eyes out, kind of like a lot of Key animes

However, it's no jsut based on laughter and sadness. Sometime they have to get your blood pumping or they grab and hold your attention with something that you'd never expect, something to make your jaw drop.

I definitely think the character development is a big issue to me. if there is no character development it makes me feel inferior to the anime character ( I know, weird)
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd
I know this is going to be cliche but
I have to have a slight tinge of romance in anything
There has to be even just a little tiny bit for me to watch it and stay inclined to watch it.
And lastly, I absolutely hate old school anime graphics.
I know.
first world problems.

I will rank mine based on importance: 1-3 (#1 being highest)
1.Every placement of specific scenes/speech that strays from the generic.
2.An unparalleled way to change a typical archetype
3.A SHAFT head tilt

Other things that may be used to sugar-coat: 1-3 (#1 being highest)
1.Plot
2.animation
3.themes

Based on my personal preferences: 1-3 (#1 being highest)
1.one to two MC max.
2.a tsundere heroine/support character/friend/acquaintance....you get the point I like tsunderes.
3.an ENDING

What kind of tsunderes? Asuka Langley Soryuu tsunderes, Taiga Aisaka tsunderes, Rin Tohsaka tsunderes - what? Or is it just all types?

I left it broad for a reason. I enjoy a little tsun here and there but I would prefer the dere more. Since it is easier to base them on a percentile scale..30% tsun 70% dere so.. something similar to Junko Hattori. Any Tsun above 50% would make one a masochist.

How much I enjoy it without being reminded heavily that I'm watching an anime. Light or no super deformed reactions, smooth and clean animation and art, and relatively believable setting and characters.

A great story with likable characters is a must. I prefer happy endings too. The whole show doesn't HAVE to be happy, but at least ending on a high note is a must for me. I prefer nice animation, but that isn't a massive requirement because I start to not notice if the story and characters suck me in. Nice music is a plus, but not required. Examples of what I think are "great" Anime: Cardcaptor Sakura, Slayers (Next especially), The Cat Returns (I know that's a movie, but I absolutely LOVED that one), Princess Tutu, and Rurouni Kenshin (more so for the manga though) to name a few. (There are many more, but that's what I can think of of the top of my head.) If I feel a little sad when I complete the show, it was a great show.

I always keep an open mind when it comes to animes and that's always good because I always stumble upon an anime that's unique in character, art, and plot which leaves an everlasting mark on me. An anime that will leave me applauding to the screen...

Unique characters and plot. The plot has to be written well: I can't stand anime with a great plot and horrible humor as well.
