It's more of a realistic way.

I really hate using them. I need my privacy. For that reason, I only ever use them if the stalls are all preoccupied.

Above all else, I'm pretty sure speed is the top reason they're popular. It's easy for us to take care of that while standing, fewer unnecessary motions and barriers.

Stuff like privacy isn't of much concern for a number of reasons, such as having no reason to look at another guy (I would assume even the average homosexual to have some degree of minding such), hands provide a degree of a visual barrier, the "#1 unspoken rule" is to leave 1 empty urinal between the next guy (a very commonly maintained etiquette, when an available option), and the spacing is enough such that looking around would be a very conspicuous and deliberate action.

Also if you've been in an airplane's restroom or one of those portable outhouses often setup for certain outdoor events, you may have noticed that some of those contain urinal designs too. Yet privacy is not relevant there (one occupant). It is just plain convenient to do it the fastest and simplest way.

Splashing has a degree of relevance too, per variable speed/pressure based on conditions.

Personally, I would rather have a urinal at home. But it's not very practical to install an auxiliary toilet unit. Plus in a home environment, it's easy to know who's been using toilet (children must be feared in such regards), so maintaining the toilet is easy compared to public environments.

Lots of good reasons listed in this thread, and I have one to add: drunks.

I've known dozens of girls who got drunk and suffered a mishap trying to use the bathroom at a bar. Guys? Not so much. And it's all thanks to the magic of urinals.

Not to mention the fact that most bars have those long trough style urinals to eliminate missing

I think it's more convenient... I mean, it gives me a chance to show off.

Not gonna lie I hate urinals....seeing every other dude's garden snake isn't cool. I'll sit down and pee any day.

You're going to make somebody very happy some day. That's like saying, "I really hate managing my money, so why don't I just hand you my paycheck and you can decide what is important to buy."
That doesn't fucking make any sense

You probably haven't been responsible for cleaning the bathrooms in a house with men.

He's eight, so he's not quite there yet.

Urinals take up less space, hence why a couple can be lined down a wall, compared to 2 or 3 regular toilet stalls.

I'll definitely get a urinal when I remodel my place.

^ This. Economics is why there are urinals in public/commercial places where the bathrooms are divided by gender. Urinals are cheaper to install, maintain and take up less space. This is why men's restrooms are generally much smaller than women's restrooms, even though they are able to accommodate the same number of people. Houses don't have urinals, because it's generally only for male use, and both male and females can live in a house and share a bathroom, so the facilities need to accommodate both genders.

If I could get a urinal in my home I would. That being said, females will never understand. Don't believe me? Try this:
