The men's restroom is all about options. If you want to just get in and get out, the urinal is the quick and easy option. If you prefer more privacy though you can always use a stall. There are usually no problems and rarely any wait time.

Before urinals, we had troughs which are still around in older buildings, and some places have urinals that extend to the floor. Before all that we were peeing outdoors, which is really the best of all! Peeing outside refreshes your connection to nature. It's pretty awesome peeing under the stars. You feel like you're leaving your mark on the universe.

I wonder if men standing up to pee has something to do with our evolution. Since men were the protectors of their harem/family, while women were nursing and gathering, men could keep a look out for predators while they peed. When you're taking a whiz, you're guard is down, and you're not expecting to get ambushed. By standing up to pee, the men were able to survey the land for predators and take off faster to combat a wild animal or tribe. Compared to how our ancestors went #2, where they squatted in the bushes and were able to conceal themselves from attacks.

But in regards to your question of why men have urinals, I think it's ultimately about speeding up the lines in a restroom. By separating those who have to pee from those who have to take a dump, the waiting times for restrooms are cut in half. And also the sanitation aspect. Men don't care if they pee on the floor or on the toilet seat. Heck most guys don't even wash their hands!

urinals are used to replace the cubicles so less space is consumed and more guys could relieve themselves. and privacy really isnt an issue if the cr was built with that in mind. our university has tall planks (around arm-height) separating each urinal at a good length. (i've seen it since a guy friend forcibly, literally, carried me over to the guys' cr. so embarrassing -_-)

just look at the girls' cr! just around 4-6 cubicles per cr while a guys' cr could hold a lot more urinals per cr.
girls' cr: a looong line of girls waiting
guys' cr: pee-and-go
now you guys now why girls take a longer time at toilets.

Actually most commercial toilets have the amount of water used to flush them printed on the top. Take a look next time. On a urinal it's quite visible, you may not have noticed as I'm guessing as a woman you don't spend a lot of time standing above the toilet.

Kind of a strange thread. I'm bored though. :P

Quicker, Cleaner, Less hassle. We're all guys so we don't really care about other guys being around as long as their not breaking the unspoken rules.

Its easier and we aren't in there looking at each other. Plus most guys know to leave one in between each guy unless you can't. Also shouldn't really matter if other people see your junk.

Urinals are convenient especially if the stalls are full. I don't really use them as I don't like flush any public toilet with my hands (it's easier to use the stall toilets as I push the handle down with my feet or try to at least get some toilet paper and flush). I don't think privacy matters when it's more convenient to piss-and-go.

I'm so confused....I thought your post was telling me that I need to be more of a man and pee upright because I'll be too vunerable and let others take advantage of me in life in regards to my paychecks? Not trying to be funny. I just thought that is what you were trying to get across. So my post was a good thing?

Yep. Don't underestimate the power of the clean bathroom. Knowing that she never has to worry about sitting in someone else's pee is enough to keep a woman devoted for life, just like knowing she never has to worry coming home to a new $45,000 truck she didn't want.

So what was the model of the truck?

Ah, my poor friend. Her stupid husband wrote a check for a new Dodge. Fortunately she was able to return it before they tried to cash the thing and found out that they were already in the red.

Us men love to play a game of "checkmate" in the washroom. If you know what I mean.
