Being topless in public
Posted 2/16/13 , edited 2/16/13
External organs of sex and of excretion? Since when were the female breasts defined as that?

I also find it odd how this law only applies to women and not men.

How is two sacs of fat on my chest a sexual organ?

I'd have to say I am against it. It is a was to use the law to force morality on the public. The law should be used to enforce laws of public safety and well being. No one was ever hurt by seeing a woman's breast. In addition to forcing morality on the public it is sexist legislation. It denies women the right to do something that men can do without question. It just emphasizes gender differences. If they want that legislation fine then shirts at all times for everyone.

Why not? Nobody said you had to look at them.

I'd imagine that this has been illegal in most places in the US since the adoption of public indecency laws.

I mean, I'm of the mindset that we're not all 14-year old prepubescents that associate everything with sex anymore, and those that are wouldn't if they didn't grow up in an environment that inherently lumped nudity and sexuality together. A boob is a boob, who cares? That's not to say that I don't find them attractive, but I'd look at your face before your chest in judging appearances, and your weight before your face. It's not like I'm going to have sex with a topless woman randomly ordering a latté, so what's sexual?

That said, I doubt that most people, outside of activists making statements and college students being college students, would take advantage of the freedom to go topless anyway. Because, you know, men are sex-crazed maniacs and turn into rapists at the slightest hint of nudity, plus you have to keep them on a leash and not have sex for X-amount-of-time because they'll lose interest in you after sex. Derp.

People do have the Freedom of expression however women should be more conservative with their bodies. Besides there are so many cute tops for females.

Why do you feel that woman should be more conservative?

I thought public nudity was already illegal.

I support the idea, however there is a time and a place for everything. I don't have a problem with nude beaches, or breast feeding, but walking around topless isn't just affecting you, but everyone around you as well. If someone wants to do that in private or in a decent way, fine. People are already being desensitized to sex and the human body, the last thing we need is our children seeing oppai their whole lives.

For guys, it's a chest. For women, it's a sexual organ. Would you walk around bottomless?

In Oregon it's actually legal to be completely nude as it is seen as protected speech. http://www.kgw.com/news/Naked-fliers-attorneys-ask-for-acquittal-162908166.html

Everyone has nipples (unless you lost it in a horrible titty twister accident in gradeschool). Almost all humans, both male and female (save those exclusively raised on formula) spent several months up to a couple of years sucking on them. How is it rational to criminalize something that EVERYONE has seen and ALL people have?

DO I like women's breasts? ABSOLUTELY. But I also like eyes, lips, legs, overall figure, etc. Banning breasts isn't going to make me any more moral. I'll still proudly be a letch! And if anything that sort of repression causes all kinds of psychological dysfunction in children, NOT health. Don't you think that having stable relationships is tough enough without being made to feel guilty for having perfectly natural biological drives? Yes, lets do that -- give adult women more reason to fear the police and make the young feel guilt for having urges during puberty. It won't give anyone any complexes or anything (that was sarcasm for those who couldn't tell).

And busty women beware. Have a shirt button snagged by your seatbelt or something and the cops will come for you!

1) So here is a little biological information. A human male will often get a mild erection periodically through the day simply to maintain bloodflow. It isn't sexual arousal, it is an autonomous biological action like breathing or a heartbeat. You've seen a lot of men in public with at least partial erections and never even noticed. THEY probably didn't even notice that they had it. It has less impact on others than seeing someone yawn.

2) While men can find breasts attractive, most adult men will not become aroused simply by seeing a breast and men CAN become aroused by many other things such as the scent of a perfume that they have good memories of. You really don't understand how it works, so you shouldn't comment.

I am not saying any of this to be lewd. This is biology class. Welcome to real life.

It's a waste of taxpayer funding, and yet another wasteful attempt to legislate morality. This legislation isn't "protecting" anyone. Yes, the GOP is in favor of a government so small, it can arrest a woman for a tiny bit of areola showing, determine which sexual acts between consenting adults are legal, and whether or not it is illegal for those consenting adults to be of the same gender, while in the privacy of their own home.

Then again, since the Texas GOP have as part of their 2012 education platform that they are against the teaching of critical thinking, this sort of behavior should surprise absolutely nobody.

Exactly. The GOP is for "small government" yet they want to regulate everything in our personal lives. How can you accomplish that with a small government? You can't and they're fucking hypocrites. But bring any kind of financial, environmental, or tax regulations and they're against it. So basically they want to deny women birth control and regulate or outright ban abortion, but let wall street run wild... It's fucking insane...

Haha, I know this. But I'd still rather not see titties in public. Sorry.

The world is full of things you may not want to see. Better to accept that sooner than later.
