Meteorite in Urals, Russia.

I think it's amazing, at the same time, as a species with our current technology, we are doomed if a deadly one hits.
Also surprising NASA nor anyone else that I've heard of was able to detect it. RT Live Updates: http://rt.com/news/russia-meteor-meteorite-asteroid-chelyabinsk-291/ Youtube:http://youtu.be/pXT_B4kx6YA Best of luck to us, humans. Haha |

Guess it's time to start a construction company specialized in meteorite shelters.

No, it's not surprising that they didn't detect it. A "detectable" size is usually on the order of at least a couple kilometers, but this one was only a few meters across. We're talking about the vast area of space in all directions around the planet; 15 meters is just a bitty dust speck that goes by unnoticed (unless it hits the atmosphere).

I will only admit to being limited in verticality

Asteroids and and meteorites are nature's way of asking "How's that space program coming along?"

This was a reminder of just how insignificant the human race really is in the big scheme of things. I wonder if the planet earth is even aware of our presence upon her.
