Dreams are the subconscious' way of dealing with problems/thoughts.
You'll find that at 1st they appear random, with no sense what so ever. Yet if you write it down as you remember from waking, you'll find them to be very simple. I.E. I had a nightmare about my brother whose skin shredded away, revealing my bro was dead and a 8 foot tarantula was using his skin, to then eat my innards. Very graphic and freaky scary detail. I found that it was about what I feared, not just spiders but losing my brother as well as dying a slow and gory death. It was also about the fact I can normally sense when something bad is about to happen and that I don't want that sense to disappear. I've even had dreams that were scary at 1st, but by writing them down, I found that it was far more comical then scary. What made it scary was it playing in my head so fast, to the point I was seeing it but it was playing faster then I could deal with. I've read about some of the meanings behind dreams, I find it insightful yet it is incomplete because each person's dream is unique to that person, so it's theirs to fully grasp the meaning behind it. I find it's the minds way of releasing stress/emotions that we haven't dealt with properly. I find that nightmares actually help me write, giving me the inspirations I need. I find some dreams painful, in that they are so wonderful but there's a part of your subconscious that knows it's a dream. Thus it comes crashing down all around you. My main problems are that I have a very creative imagination. So it becomes very detailed & feels more real then it should. The other problem is that normally in a nightmare/dream, you can wake yourself up/escape before the terrifying conclusion. I sadly can not. No matter what occurs, I'm stuck till the very end. Normally lets me see myself after said thing. I.E my body after being devoured, drowned, blown up, dismembered and falling. I must sound messed up yet I'm still sane. I used to be afraid of going to bed, now I either think a great addition to a future story or something that will be forgot given 6 months. |

Did you guys know that all of your conscious thoughts were all made 6 seconds before you were conscious of them?

Dreams are a result of you "looking" into your subconsciousness. It is a mixture of memories and desires.
Nightmares are an instinctive type of dream, normally trying to forewarn you of danger, wake you up, or remind your body of the fear it has experienced. -at least, that's what I think. |

While it does take some time to become aware of your thoughts and intended movements, 6 seconds is waaaaaay too long. Action potentials travel rapidly through axons - up to 120 meters per second in myelinated neurons (white matter). The distances between your interneurons (grey matter) is very short, so the even the slowest speed of 1 meter/second still wouldn't produce a 6 second delay in awareness. I suppose if half our brains were in our feet and we used strictly unmyelinated interneurons to communicate between hemispheres then a tall man might be able to drag his awareness lag out to four seconds. But six seconds is totally wrong. |

Striferu wrote: Hachikobubble wrote: My dreams are weird, but I find them oddly satisfying to my amusement. As for my nightmares... Mine are twisted, and can happen any time. I find myself now-and-days having frequent night terrors. Like a few nights ago, I woke up on the ground, clutching my shirt, and sweating, feeling completely terrified. I don't remember it, but I kind of know the familiar feeling of a night terror. That sounds pretty horrible. I never been like that. Always too alerted. Nothing suprised me but now I am relaxing more. Things might suprise me. I might be scared and such but you can't protect yourself from everything. It would limit your safety to tell yourself. Watch you back 24/7. That would just consume energy. I had ''sleep in state'' nightmares before. Those where the worst. it was a state that I halfway slept in minutes. Often from 5 to 15 mins. It could be a finger or a face or a simple object or walking in a corridor. The atmosphere around it. That is what made it so terrifying. It felt like my head was going to explode. I always tried to wake up from those minute nightmares but they drew me down deeper and deeper. I could force myself to stay in teh dream because I was tired and exhausted but I would be even more afraid of ''brain kill'' The finger itself coming from left to right is not scary but the yway of those dreams. ''Planned dream'' ''It was suppose to happen.'' A few rare times I made to turn around and look behind me to find a scarier face than death or anything that can be described with languages or human emotions. Something without spacematter and time. Something that would define nothing. Scary stuff. Those have dissipated now. This could be a kind of insomnia... That sounds terrifying as well... The way I got about it, is I have positive thoughts before I got to sleep, and I often meditate to relax myself. But they are quite random. They appear even on the days I do think positive thoughts. But eh. It could be worse. I suffer insomnia, which is the reason why I have to meditate to relax, especially when I run out of my medication. ![]() My brain is very stimulated at night. Life of an insomniac... I think I may also have sleep paralysis, because of my waking dreams in the night, where I'm half awake in my room and conscious of my surroundings, but I can't move, and I'm somewhat dreaming so there's either someone talking to me, or there's a large pressure on my chest. |

when I was younger I used to have this recurring nightmare where this crazy cloaked figure with a trippy mask was chasing me across a terrain of floating islands connected by rope bridges. Went on for quite a while, always the same thing, until one time I came across a house on one of the islands from which I procured a knife and stabbed my pursuer in the face, haven't had a nightmare since.

Such wonderful things I can experience in my head! Dreams are my feelings. They're everything to do with who I am. I get the best dreams when I'm sick and have a headache. Had a dream where my body was failing...couldn't breath, a man was forcing pills in my throat. Stopped taking Tylenol after that. Lol |

If you dream that you lose your teeths it might indicate bad tooth health or worse. No, it means you are undergoing a stressful time, something's bothering you. A lot of women tend to have that dream when they're stressed. |

The best dreams are freaky and funny and follow their own "dream logic". I've had many dreams where I wake and think "wait that won't work". So, I fall back asleep and my subconscious tries to somehow re-arrange the "dream logic" to make it work in the real world. Even though this is impossible, but my mind still tries. On rare occasions I can wake up from a dream, recognize the faults in the logic and fall asleep again and tweak said logic. On a lucky night I may have one contiguous dream where I wake up six or seven times but always fall back into the same dream.
