Spartan Soldiers.....they're gay?!
Posted 6/18/07
I hope I didn't offend anyone. I don't mean anything bad toward homosexuals. But I never knew it, & I thought my friend lied, I decided to talk about it.

Its wasn't technically that they were gay. It was just more of a noble love between two men that than of a man and woman. Also it was in all term of penetration, the "top" wouldnt be considered gay but more manly in a way becuase he was the penetrator..

They weren't really gay in the sense you would normally consider it, they just wanted some kind of love on the battlefield, some sort of sense of sex. Hate to use the term, but it was more like 'prison gay'.

Now Alexander the Great, HE was gay.

I think it`s fine if the thread maker wants to discuss this. If you don`t like it, don`t post.

O.0 True right? What do you think about this? You think it's true? I guess they didn't show it in the 300 movie because it would freak people out I guess. But Brokeback Mountain is an exception I guess. -__-'

you just ruined my view of spartans............okay i did not read this thread, it doesn't exist.

edit
wait a minute; why did spartans do this? aren't they supposed to be emotionless? if their partners die then aren't they supposed to not give a crap so it doesn't effect them in battle? wouldn't this partnership thing only be a burden for the warriors? i'm not just disagreeing with the gay stuff but also any friendship bonds between the partners.

Like I said, don't quote me totally on this, I think it was just for sex. Though Troy did have Achilles exclaim emotion, but that movie is so off-script it's insane. Like I said though, I'm no big spartan nut, so I couldn't tell you for sure, more of a Persian army guy.

I doubt it was only for sex, it was more to build a bond like "Hey that's my male sex partner back the fuck off of him!" and to make them get enraged when their partner was being attacked. I doubt it was ONLY just for sex... they'll fight hard to NOT have their partner die on them, because they had some bond, and of course they'll fight with more force and fierceness and all that shit. It's like the mad man going out for revenge, and the normal guy fighting... the mad man is probably going to win most of the time.

And like Lee above me said, these guys weren't all gay, some of them were Bi...

Actually I believe they would all be 'bi'. I think the Spartans would eyeball you if you only liked men, that'd be like being a straight-edge Viking.

Well that might be not that untrue.
In ancient hellenic era, the love between men was very normal, it was concidered as more sophisticated and more pure than a love with moman, which were seen as a minor life form,... it has parallels to the late japanese medieval time, at the early Edo-Period, when men also cherished love to other men for the purity and friendship....
and in Homer's "Ilias", it is said that the Myrmidons(elite soldiers) of Achilles were all homosexuals,...well to bound the men together literally....
