Source of the pic?

Do you mean the name of the anime or where I got the picture from? Well it doesn't matter, I'll answer both questions.

The anime (rather, animated movie) is called Rebuild of Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance and I got the picture from google images by searching Misato fanservice (Misato Katsuragi being the character in the picture).

Thank you, and I meant the source for the anime so sorry about that.

Rosario+Vampire, Sekirei & Freezing ... OK those are some decent ones R+V probably has the most fanservice of the three. Have not watched Evangelion or Heaven's Lost Property yet, yeah I know everyone's probably seen Evangelion.

This has to be the billionth thread on this subject matter, what's the obsession with discussing the likes or dislikes of fanservice and such?
Well, on topic I suppose: Personally, I have something of a huge distaste for fanservice. Even mild fanservice gets under my skin, as I always feel like the writers assume their audience to be too stupid to keep watching without something to appeal to them, or that it just gets in the way of writing. It just comes off as lazy and unnecessary. For me, it moreso applies to series which want me to take it seriously or are outside any fanservice-y genres; animes that know they're fanservice fest from the start and completely embrace that have never really bothered me.

Ah, fanservice. Whether you like it or not, it's become one of those nuances that make an anime. It is not bad, especially when used in small doses and doesn't get in the way of the story. It's only bad when it's used in an unfitting time and place, and it feels like there's little to no plot to see in the anime because of it. With that said, what are your thoughts on fanservice? What are some good and bad examples of it?

I'm sure you haven't heard of this since you're 14 years old, there are two qualities called: existence and uniqueness, the two qualities are correlated to a 1 to 1 ratio.

If we go by anime standards, existence would be everything that went wrong with the anime at that particular instance, scene etc... Now with uniqueness there is only one right(unique) place for a particular instance, scene etc... so keep this in mind.

Fanservice, is offend misplaced; however, it does not mean it is a nuance. It is unique.

I hope this clarify any sort of misunderstand you might have had pertaining to fanservice.

It's porn for those who don't feel comfortable with anything hardcore I'm guessing.

I don't think there's any deep understanding behind it.

Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari are anime that have heavy ecchi and a great plot, infact without the ecchi it would not be half the anime it is.
Toothbrush scene anyone?

I wonder what people's views of fanservice would be if anime added just as many shots of mooseknucles and backside close-ups of dudes in speedos (during the "beach episode," natch).

I could be wrong, but i think what you described the fan service for those who like the BL/yaoi stuff?

Some people might like that stuff, but its just not for me. Though that is what a lot of females probably think when they see fan service in different genres of anime.
