In my younger years, I knew that computer games existed... but I didn't have much access to them, and they seemed difficult to find. While I have a decent computer today, I'm almost sure that it's too weak to run any game with 3D graphics.
Anyway, I was fascinated with Scorched Earth. It was not a thoughtful or story-driven game, but it amused me. And it was one of the few that never had a console port, so I enjoyed the times when I had more than a couple minutes to play it. |

How old is old? Commander Keen. Used to play the original on family vacations on my dad's black and white laptop. My dad and I used to play the original Doom cooperatively over our LAN back in the day too.

TheZorch wrote: * Neverwinter Nights - What makes me sad is this game never quite lived up to its promise, but despite that it was still a really good game. I'm a veteran D&D player so I loved playing this game, and the Forgotten Realms is my favorite D&D setting. I can't wait for the Neverwinter MMO to come out of closed beta. Even today this game is still fun to play. What's best, this version from GoG.com comes with all of the expansions. This this this this this this x100000. Neverwinter Nights was amazing. Icewind Dale/Icewind Dale 2 Baldurs Gate Age of Empires II and Conquerors Expansion (HD remake on steam soon YESSSSSS) Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Warcraft: Orcs and Humans Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth |

UPDATE
There's a Kickstarter for a game called Torment: Tales of Numenera http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/torment-tides-of-numenera?ref=live. Its an RPG that follows the tradition of Planescape: Torment, but in a completely new setting. Two of the writers behind the D&D Planescape setting are involved in the project as are many of the original developers for Planescape: Torment. The Kickstarter is asking for $900,000, but has gotten 2.5 million so far and is still getting donations with 25 days left to go. You can listen to a sample of the music from the game on the project page. It sound very much like the music from the original, only a little better. I can't wait for this to come out. Its going to be on Windows, Mac and Linux, is developed with the Unity Engine, and will likely show up on Steam. |

One of my personal old favorites:
From the era of the first Quake also came a shooter with RPG elements from ID Software named Strife. http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Strife The game unfortunately never became a big hit, none the less this game was very fun to play and had a really cool setting. |
