The point of going premium is to not see the commercials for me and quite frankly I think it's worth it. It's subtitled and shown to me usually day of from Japan. I'm like hpulley where we didn't have this stuff back then. We used to jump up for joy when someone got a bad VHS copy of a program with no subs like a year after it was shown in Japan because they didn't have CR and Funimation, Hulu, Netflix back then. People use the internet for everything now thinking because you can download it it makes it right to rip people off. I support wherever I can legit releases whenever possible. I guess because I have the history to know what it's like to NOT have anime I can make that determination. Those who were born during the internet don't really "get it" and think everything is owed to them. Makes me sad honestly. I still have my VHS collection, I bought those too and I paid $35 for subs instead of $25 for dubs if I had a choice; that price is per tape, usually one or two 30minute episodes per tape from A.D. Vision, Manga Video, Orion Video Comics, Streamline Pictures. Not sure if any of them are still around... i usually bought them sight unseen at my comic book store with my manga... no bad copies for me, the originals were bad enough after ten views... bought them when I was a starving college student too, priorities LOL |

I actually like the series so far. I'm up to episode 5 or so. Which is good because I'm not that far behind the simulcast now

Until crunchy roll I've never found anything even in the bigger cities to match what Hill City Comics and Cards had, back in the day. |

I have always preferred to own it rather than just rent or stream it so I could rewatch it any time. |

When owning started getting cheaper than renting 8 to 12 Vhs's twice I started buying compilation packs. I have a lot of releases from ADVs thinpack craze and some of their older book formats.
Took forever to acquire Sol Bianca just because while I really liked it. I just couldn't justify the price until it showed up here at 90% off. maybe that makes me cheap. but Anime is one of the things I waste a lot of time and money on. As percentage of my resources and in absolute numbers I don't think I owe the anime industry anything. |

Using Japanese in my job on a daily basis stems from an interest originally sparked by anime and manga so I owe a lot to it but really I just like it and want to support what I like.
Speaking of which, I like but don't love GJ CLUB so far. I really liked the first episode that Crunchyroll put up, #7, but in going through the series from the start it seems to be fairly repetitive. Using the same gag over and over can work but I need something more as well, a longr term plot in even slice of life shows to keep me interested. I will keep watching it if I can but so far I don't know that I need to own it and watch it forever. |
