I've kind of fallen into that situation by owning a computer but not even my own television. I got some PS2 games (Katamari, Lumines) and ran them with PCSX2. It's been a while. I'm not going to invest in a television without a REALLY good reason though. :P

In theory, as soon as the PS4 exists, I won't feel bad about my lack of a PS3, right?

Heh. I don't know; it all depends. I don't play as many games anymore. If I do, they are usually indie PC games. Regardless, you can count me interested in the PS4.

I'm interested, though I'll have to wait and see what kind of games are going to be out for this PS4.

I got a chance to see the Sony presentation, the graphics they showed for Killzone Shadow Fall looked very impressive, similar to a high end PC, of course the question is if it is real time or pre-rendered. At the end what will matter is what publishers they will actually get to make games for it, at this point any console could be passed over, the way the Wii U seems to be by publisher, Ubisoft pushed back a game that they actually had finished to release it on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U simultaneously. It is a chicken an egg problem, and if Microsoft gets too much momentum early we could see games not show up on the PS4 because developers don't think it is worth it. The jump in graphics is not that impressive compared to the PS2/PS3 jump, so I will probably wait to see what games are actually out for launch.

I'm fine with the way gaming is now, honestly. I think it's too early for next gen, but what the hell.

So, PS4... I'm impressed by its processing power and third-party support, the Dualshock 4 i sexy, I don't really care about the social features much, and I'm hoping BC is there. The one thing that would totally kill the PS4 for me is if it were region locked.

I hope it can play older games, still pissed the PS3 won't play PS2 games.

I don't game as much anymore so I don't know if I'll bother getting it.

Its not about the graphics , sony was successful during the playstation 2 era as a midrange console . The console with the most games , the console with the cheapest price and the games people most and a dvd player. Rather than keep the ps3 on the market and build a large library again , they are going to blow the foundation again to make another ps3. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122276-Sony-Stock-Drops-After-PS4-Event

I want sony to succeed but they are going about this the wrong way , they think they can just mimic or copy microsoft rather than acting like themselves during the ps2 days when they did make money.

Hit the nail on the damn head!!!

As far as Kill Zone goes, that was realtime gameplay. They even shared the stream afterwards. The rest of them we can't be sure, but that one was actual gameplay.

The real key thing that is different in this presentation from the PS3 is that they're making developers happy. The two things that hurt the ps3 most were the launch price and that it was horrible to develop games for. Developers hated it, so games were frequently laggy, buggy, or otherwise - despite the powerful hardware. It was just a pain to work with. They've taken a focus on making the PS4 the opposite of that. The ultimate developer friendly console. And they've announced that they're aiming for am uch more friendly price than the PS3 started with.(in an interview after the presentation)

I am still a bit iffy on a few of the gimmicks, but they have some fantastic potential here... and E3 we'll get a chance to see the games.

Edit: To anyone complaining about backwards compatibility, exactly HOW did you expect them to do this? PS3's hardware still costs almost 200 dollars to make - so in order for the console to be backwards compatible... it would have to cost 200+ more dollars. And PS3 emulation is still barely possible even on top end pcs and it eats the entirety of the pc's resources and still doesn't run cleanly.

Backwards compatibility isn't possible, it sucks but you have to be reasonable - you wouldn't have wanted to PAY for the backwards compatibility, so you can't really expect it to be there.

That is speculation, not fact. I prefer not to be a doomsayer with baseless speculation...

I will not be getting a PS4 at launch, because most launch titles tend to be crap not all of them, but most times are.

The controller I'm not sure about. It looks like a Daulshock 3 and a PS move fusion together, but will give it a chance for all I know it could be a nice easy pad to use.

The graphics didn't look that revolutionary. There a step up compared to this generation, but wait to see what gameplay well look like for them. I do think gameplay will look better with this new technology.

I'd say wait until more models get released in the future like I'm going to do or if people are eager get it at launch so you have a nice Xmas
present and going into the next gen
