I have seen the confirmation on a japanese anime website :3 I am excited :8

An official link would be nice.

I got the info from AnimeVice, and here is the link to from which the news thread sent me to ----> http://www.swordart-online.net/news/index.html

There is nothing on that website that says another anime is coming.

I don't care what animevice says.. there is nothing on that page that remotely says it's a new season. Nowhere.

Look, not everybody knows who is who, and when somebody says to look someplace, and we do and it ain't there... this is one of those put up or hush up moments. No speculating, no opinions... want cold hard facts.

True :3 I like the way you put that and after further reading of those forum sites posting of SAO season 2, apparently the author actually just hinted at it and didn't say there would be x| Guess, those people were wrong >.>

I really don't understand why people that do not like SAO post in this thread and blatantly bash it and talk about other anime series.
Personally, I would absolutely love a third season of SAO. I'd probably squeal and scream like a little girl and cry tears of happiness, lol.

I do wish though, that they made the Sword Art Online arc longer though. It felt really short.

it WAS short. or I guess you could say rushed. extremely rushed. a lot was cut from the novels, and the anime suffered because of it.

Long story short, to those that are wondering if the series will come back for season 3*, the answer is yes.

The series have made quite a profit for the production companies(not to mention the profits from licensing feeds, games, novels, etc..). In addition, SOA has been one of the top-tier anime for the year 2012.

While there is way too much content to be crammed into season 3, you can expect the main storyline to be more or less the same, with some parts omitted from the anime series(much like in season 1).

Anime should be out anywhere from early March to as late as mid June. In the end, it is up for the animation companies to decide when's the best time to release the anime for maximum profit and exposure.

* Many people are debating whether the SOA and ALO arcs are to be considered one or two seasons, but regardless of the outcome, let's just pretend that that number 3 following the "Season" in the title stands for the whatever-next-gen season that will cover GGO will be.

You can pretend all you want, but SAO had one season broadcast over two cours. There has only been one SAO series. If there is another, it will be season 2, not season 3.

I expect it will get more, however, as it has plenty of source material left and was insanely popular in terms of sales.

Weren't 2 seasons bad enough?

Good and bad have no bearing on what gets a 2nd season and what doesn't, other than the fact that if something is sufficiently bad it won't sell.

The only thing that matters is sales figures and the desire of the creators to make another season. In some cases, desire can override sales figures, or sales figures are secondary to other considerations, like with Chihayafuru. For that show, it was the impact the anime had on manga sales that ensured a second season, even though the DVD/BluRay sales were quite modest.

In some cases, the show could sell tons but there will be no more seasons because there is no more story to tell. In others, like Haruhi, the sales figures were there, but the desire to make more anime seems to be lacking.

The DVD/Blu-Ray sales have been amazing, to say the least; modest would be an understatement. However, regardless of whatever the next SAO series will be called and whether they'll focus solely on *spoiler*.

Nothing on a new season has been released to the public so we don't know when it will come out or if it will, But as there is still more parts to it in its light novels and it has become very popular the past year so more than likely I think they might continue onto Gun Gale Online later on.
