Just last week I signed up for membership at Crunchyroll. Stumbled into anime roughly 10-years ago. Though I have watched a fair amount in that period of time, it has been limited to Netflix (which has a decent collection and I have watched a very large chunk), whatever is on DVDs at all the libraries in the city (which also is a good size), and series downloaded. Most of this has been mainstream anime so when I stumbled upon Crunchyroll (on Roku) there is a host of completely unheard of selections! I contemplated FUNanimation, but those are the animes I have been watching for years. Because of that, I picked Crunchyroll! So though I have seen quite a bit of anime, I am suddenly feeling like a newbie!

First of all what exactly are simucasts? Why are they so outstanding?

The first anime I opted to watch was Fate/Zero since I had previously seen Fate Stay Night. Much better than the first though the first wasn't "bad". But now I am at a loss without just randomizing (which isn't bad, still thought I would use this large wealth of advice in these forums).

What series are just must see on the site that I wouldn't find mainstream? Of course the series need to be complete. I have a fairly wide selection of "likes" but do not care for "slice-of-life" styles or mech. I do enjoy horror, comedy, fantasy, fan service, etc...

Simulcasts are shows that are currently being aired in Japan, and shown here at (roughly) the same time. They are outstanding since they are brand new! :)

You should ask for recommendations in the recommendations thread at the top of the page. That way you can more extensive replies. You probably want to tell people the shows you *have* watched since that will help. MyAnimeList also has many recommendations based on shows.

You can also go to the anime list and browse the genres.

Well i dont know what animes you have seen, but i can recommend some from the simulcast list.

First we have Kotoura-san. Its has a very deep story of the main character and her pain. Later it develope into an amazing romantic comedy. I didnt expect much of it before i started on it, but i was really enjoying it.

They have Cuticle Detective Inaba. Pure comedy and i laugh through the whole episode. The humor might not fit all people though, but if you are like me it would suit you very well.

Problem children are coming from another world, arent they? is yet another good anime. It is a fantasy, and it has one of those stories that could go on forever. Sadly it seems like it is only going to be 10 episodes or so, but i recommend it even if thats so.

There are a lot i would like to recommend, but writing it all would take forever. Explore, listen to people`s advise and you will stumble upon lots of good ones.

They have a lot here so ultimately it's going to come down to what kind of stuff you enjoy

You have until the end of the month to watch Usagi Drop. If you like slice of life shows I recommend it. Beautiful series

The Unlimited is probably my favorite of the current Simulcasts.Action, Intrigue and Psychic powers

Hunter x Hunter is a great Shonen series

Gintama for comedy and occasional awesome

Beelzebub is an older show that's a lot of fun, but you must desensitize yourself to naked baby. (honestly after an episode or two i just stopped noticing and enjoyed the show, but it seemed to really bother some folks)

Eyeshield 21 for Sports action

Another is good if you like Creepy ghost stories

So far I would say the best shows on CR are.

Gintama...really long and funny with awesome action, always nice as a fallback if you are lost for what to watch.

Usagi drop is wonderful, even if you dislike slice of life I still say you should watch it.

Angel beats ( Because Key, need i say more?) if you are yet to see it.

The monogatari shows are heavy ecchi and probably the best harem shows ever, also nice action.

Durarara is really good and has a very large cast with interwining stories.(Similar to Baccano)

Toradora is probably the best rom-com ever, nuff said.

Sword art online, it tends to split anime fans you eithet love it or hate it, but you should try it.

Kokoro connect is a good supernatural slice of life show.

Some of these are only availible to the US so you may need a VPN if you are not.
Oh and avoid school days, just trust me on that one.
