it really grinds my gears when the ending is rushed!

such well-developed, suspenseful, exhilarating plot changes & cliffhangers throughout... only to be met w/ a hastily formatted, mediocre final episode.

grrr.

Characters explaining their skills annoys the hell out of me. I'm also incredibly frustrated by villains who have the upper hand, then stop to talk about their plans, but I think that trope shows up in many places besides anime.

Any anime in which the characters just seem to be the same tired archetypes will put me off. If the character fits an archetype at heart but they've been built up with other things to give them more dimensions, fine, but if all they are is 'ordinary guy', 'quiet girl', 'ojou-sama', 'tsundere girl' etc. I don't want to waste my time with another iteration of the same show.

Also, this is a gripe with anime fans rather than anime itself, but... people who don't seem to understand that stuff that happens in anime would have entirely different consequences and meanings IRL; especially if they then proceed to actually emulate those things in reality as if it's a smart idea.

I hate when characters are fatally wounded and, by some miracle, survive.
... when the bad guys turn out to be good guys.
... when the main character doesn't kill, or finish off, the bad guy.
... when main characters are overpowered, without any explanation.
... tentacles, out of nowhere.
... useless females.
... main character trying to save friend turned foe, regardless of crimes.
... long ass flashbacks!!!!

I hate shows that have tits just to have tits (HOTD would have been AMAZING without them), shitty J-pop openings, shows where years pass and the main character doesn't seem to ACTUALLY age or get smarter (Clannad is a great example of this NOT being a problem), And the fact that there is no second season of Black Lagoon (WHO DO I HAVE TO BLOW TO GET ANOTHER SEASON HERE!).

I have to agree with you on HOTD. Like I don't mind boobs but when they are unrealisticly big and that's one of the main focuses then it just ruins everything! To me big boobs like that are not "sexy" at all but disgusting. Though this is coming from a female point of veiw. I also hate in shojo manga that the main girl is usually stupid and ditsy and has no good qualities besides being somewhat of a good person. I want a main character that has actual personality and great character development! Also as much as I loved magical girls series they are all the freaking same, just copying Sailor moon. I want some shojo manga or anime with girls who are BA and older, not some little girls who wears frills and fights with the power of love. Seriously lame.

Heroes that kill people for the first 5 episodes, then reveal that they hate killing and it terrifys them, and they don't kill people for the rest of the series........

I guess the moral contradictions is all i got that hasn't already been stated.

I also dislike those animes based off the dating games, where every female lead has some side story, but they never really expand on anything. Clannad is the only series that ever got this mechanic right.

I hate the fact that, in all the animes like 95 percent of them. All the main characters are either in their preteens or 16 and 17 years old then these kids act like their so big and mighty and knows everything about the world, when their barely out of highschool and is not even legal. Oh, did I mention all these 16 and 17 year olds characters act like 30 year olds in terms of maturity and looks like in their mid twenties.

I just don't understand why the manga and anime creaters always makes stories revolving around highschool kids even when it's saving the world. It's so bothering and boring, like always the same thing..

It's time to make characters 18 and above, there should be some age difference. Everyone doesn't have to be in the same stupid age!

While I see your point and I too get annoyed with little 12 year olds acting all grown up and saving the world, I think it's important to remember the target audience for many of these shows. I think the shows you're mostly referring to are shounens, which are mainly targeted at young boys in the teen and pre-teen age range so the characters are the same age as the target audience. There are shows out there with older characters (most memorable in the shounen division would probably be Himura Kenshin, aged 28), and a lot of seinen have older characters. I've been finding recently that my personal tastes in manga and anime have been shifting toward the seinen division. Guess I'm growing up and branching out!

I guess I have to watch some seinen animes as well. I am quite tired of watching 14 year olds joining the military and saving the day in less than a minute. And in most shoujos there is this completely stereotyped 16 year old girl, moves to a new place or school and finds herself in middle some hot guys who looks a lot older but is not, and there always have to be something special about that bad boy, even though he can be a jerk..

Oh well I think I've said enough.. I should probably search some seinen and then maybe josei animes.

I hate other peoples opinions about anime.

Ranging from the "loli/ecchi is destroying anime" to the "omg (insert overhyped pile of garbage title here) is so great more anime should be just like it."

/highfive /agree

But what the heck, I'll put my bad opinion out there anyway. lol.
But really, I do hate Mary Sue characters (especially the ones that are almost dead in fights, and somehow shrug it all off, and beat up bad guys, (but then, I tend to dislike those shows as a whole, rather than just the characters.)) Or Mary Sue technology. No, Ghost in the Shell, I'm not looking at you. I'm looking at that black hole caster gun over there from a certain other series.

I hate that nearly every anime has to pair up the male and female characters, with a never going anywhere relationship. Love when there isn't any of this, thank you One Piece.

On the supposedly 17 but looks 12 girls... that's not that uncommon in Japan, Asian women can be incredibly tiny, example Kitty Jung... don't look that name up at work. I don't personally mind it... I don't get into it either XD but it doesn't bother me. I've met women like this before.

As for promoting pedophilia, I always thought it was better for some pedo to be into fake anime kids than going after real ones. It seems like a healthy release for a serious mental problem to me.

At least Madoka Magika bucked this trend. =D Was frilly, yes, but much more dark. =)
Also, I always thought it'd be funny to have a series with Magical girls as adults. (No I don't mean Sentai shows.) I mean adults that have to deal with Card Captor Sakura stuff. Lol. Excel Saga was close with this, and Puni Puni Poemi had some also, with the Aasu sisters. (Same director~ crazy, huh?!)
Yes, there were adults in Sailor Moon (Pluto and Tux, etc.) but they sort of glossed over how Tux had time to go save Sailor Moon with work/ School going on. LOL.
Also, the thought of 30 year old ladies (or even guys) showing up in pink frills to defeat some bad guy, trying to get their wand out of their purse/ briefcase just amuses me.

I hate when the characters fall in love with their cousin (or another family member) or are even physically attracted to them...
It grosses me out

I overlook those bad points about anime when i see them and learn to enjoy the entire series in a whole. Speaking of which, there are times I just don't find it reasonable for people to drop anime just because of small points. I mean every story has its own unique qualities and a different story to tell, hence different titles. True whatever you just listed above is what has been done over and over, but that's why they're called cliches right? No one prefers cliches.

In any case to add to that, I hate it when anime's get so good you're left with the craving of wanting more.
