Don't excuse your prejudice with a false notion of nature.
Perception of body weight varies from culture to culture, it is not so inherent like you seem to believe. In some cultures, more body fat is celebrated. There is evidence that early humans had idols depicting exaggeratedly fat women as goddesses or sacred symbols. Hopefully what I say isn't wasted on you.

Anyway, I would really like to see a greater variety of body types in anime. I really doubt the people who claim they would never watch an anime with a fat protagonist should be listened to. There are plenty - almost all - of anime where the protagonists and heroes are skinny or muscular (for men. It would nice to see more muscular women who aren't villains or comic relief, etc). So boohoo if an anime features human beings, with thoughts feelings and dreams who happened to look different.

If there is an overweight female protagonist it would be a comedy... that's how it always and will probably remain that way. The media says in order to be pretty and popular you must be thin otherwise your just there to be laughed at. Unless your a guy then its okay.

Not even. Bigger guys are ridiculed all of the time, including in the media. It's less so than bigger women, but they are hardly treated well.

accel world had a fat male protagonist. As far as fat girls in anime...do you really think an otaku wants to see that? As long the art was done tastefully I don't think it would bother me but I don't know. It is also easier to draw slender figures I would assume but im not an artist.

Damn, I must be one of the few girls who likes my women a bit on the meaty side...

Honestly, I'd read a manga if it featured a "fat" heroine. Because I don't honestly give a damn what said heroine looks like. I tend to care more for the story and art, the important stuff, ya know?

There was an excellent Josei manga that featured an overweight girl as the main heroine, and it didn't involve her changing her appearance. She learns to like herself and overcome her painfully low self-esteem. Of course, it also involves her living in a house with a mean woman who she thinks is her mother, and a group of good looking but mean, shallow guys. A really good manga about acceptance, coming to terms with yourself and love (and not done in an annoying Shoujo way ugh) - I totally recommend it.

It was called
BARA NO TAMENI, or For the Sake of the Rose.

This! What a great manga.

It is super rare to have a fat girl (or fat people in general) in anime. Like how it is super rare to have an actual Japanese/Asian looking character in anime, or a foreigner who isn't always white with blond hair and blue eyes.

It's annoying, but there it is.

I wouldn't mind seeing a fat girl in an anime, it would kind of refreshing. The only anime I can think of where the protagonist isn't that attractive is Kuragehime. Anyone know any others?

To be honest Ive never seen an anime where the protagonist is a fat girl that saves people and things like that.

Obesity is a much smaller issue in japan and for the same reason hollywood doesn't have fatty MCs or many fatties at all.
