Ok mods, I have a simple question for ya'll. I'm sure all of you are huge anime fans, so... do any of you speak the Japanese language, or plan to learn in the future?

にほんごを はなしますか。

I studied japanese for a few years, but, i haven't really been able to put it to much use in daily life unfortunately :(

私は日本語がちょっと分かるよ。きっと少しずつ私は練習でよくなるでしょう。

I'm really, really out of practice with my japanese, so my humble apologies for any mistakes xD 本当にごめんなさい!

Your personality sounds quite disgusting, why don't we talk about it.

Guest pass: how long does it last for?

Depends actually, but usually 24 hours. I've given out 48 hour passes before though or maybe the 48 hours was just a figment of my imagination.

Nope! Not a figment of my imagination.

うわー!あなたは がっこうで日本語を勉強しましたか。 カンジがたくさんわかりますか。

ほんとに、ごめなさい。わたしも日本語がすこしわかります。まだ じょうず じゃ ありません。

Lol, hope that made some sense. I wasn't really sure how to properly ask if you've studied Japanese at a school/university, so it might sound kinda funny.

So, why was sethlord banned? Was he banned because he was questioning the authority of a mod?

Well more than likely what happened was Sethlord did something that was against the rules or inappropriate in a thread, a mod warned Seth, and then Seth did it again anyway. Probably repeatedly.

It wouldn't be the first time. If "question the authority of a moderator" was all it took to get a ban Sethlord would have been lifetime banned well over a month ago.

Kark and mirg pretty much covered it.

you made sense! and it's ok, practice makes perfect. :)

あ、成るほど。むかしでたくさん漢字がわかったけどいまもう少しで漢字がぜんぶわすれました。えと、高校と大学で日本語を勉強したよ。

とにかく私は とてもうれしいです。日本語を放せなくてなんて久しぶり!

i'm getting a little more adventurous with my phraseology here, so i apologize if it makes little to no sense. really out of practice xD

I got lost at a couple spots, lol. When you said, もう少しで - I got lost, lol. And at the last sentence, when you said 放せなくてなんて久しぶり! - I got lost at this combination of Kanji/kana. I couldn't figure out exactly how to break up the kanji/kana into individual, separate words per say. Also, it almost looks like u tried to end that last sentence w/out a verb??? Can u do that? I'm probably misunderstanding, but from what I can tell, 久しぶり is a noun (meaning "long time") and I thought generally you always end sentences with a verb (and the order of everything else doesn't really matter so long as the particles are in the right spots)?

lol, object fail, i remember using something similar back in the day, except it was much simpler. like, スキーなんて久しぶり, which would have meant i haven't skied in a long time, per this example (http://japanese.about.com/blpod020101.htm). i was ending the sentence in an interjection xD what I meant by 放せなくてなんて久しぶり was basically that i haven't spoken (japanese) in a long time.

and using もう少しで is basically like using ほとんど or ほぼ, as in almost. I meant to say that "Nowadays, I've forgotten almost all kanji." lol, really, really bad japanese there on my part. xD

どうもありがとうございました。 I looked at that site u provided, and I just noticed that in the word 久しぶり - the 久 is used as a kanji, right? So, in this instance, would it be pronounced like ひさ? It throws me off a little because it looks like it's the exact same Katakana character for 久(ku), lol. And I wasn't aware that there were Kanji that were the same as some of the kana.

どういたしまして! AFAIK, there are no kanji that look like kana. There's a subtle difference... here's the hiragana く and katakana ク. if you look closely, the kanji for 久しぶり has an extra stroke. i think you're just confusing the katakana for ク with the kanji for 久しぶり which is 久.

Here's a site that shows you the different ways that radical can be used: Kanji for 久
