Time flies, that's for sure. Doesn't feel like it's been 6 years. But here we are, 6 years older. ._.

Uh dwuhuhuhuhuh I don't remember how long I have used the site. At first it was highly casual and didn't visit "that" often.... obviously it is more a daily thing now. It was either late 2008 or early 2009 that I joined ..... or I could just look at my profile

Apparently I officially created my account on 1/9/09 so it has been almost 4.5 years or so. Wee.

So what are the moderators's take on this thread? Seeing as it is created by a Crunchyroll employee, its an interesting topic to discuss; the thread itself appears to be in violation of the bold rules below:

1. Inappropriate Links
Links to sites (commercial OR personal) that have:
~ Pornographic, racist or illegal materials
~ Profit sites or referral link games. These are sites that earn the poster a profit/commission or sites that give points for incoming links.
~ Links to sites that host potentially illegal content. This would include direct downloads and streaming sites that have videos and music that were uploaded without consent of the copyright holders.
~ Any form of advertising. You may post links to sites you like, just as long as you genuinely endorse it and don't post it multiple times.

Note: Judging from the comments, it appears that the thread has been reported but the thread has not been locked or closed.

The first bold is where my main concerns are at as this is to raise profit; the latter bold part isn't as important and can be dismiss but I feel that it is in breach due to the nature of the post (garnering revenue to start a project).

The reason I ask this is because I feel, alongside other users, that the moderation itself is inconsistent (not to mention that the moderator kind of breaks the CR rules itself; I don't think anyone should breach those rules, especially the authoritative figures as it creates a precedent for the community). Letting the thread slide seems like a bit of "moderator privilege" to me hence why I'm asking; of course, I'm not asking for the thread to be lock but the moderator's opinions.

Seeing as I'm here, I may as well bring up this topic while I'm at it (this was more of a regard to the lockdown of /AMP/ a few weeks ago but applies to the whole forum):

At often times, I find that the forum rules are a bit too arbitrary and often worded vaguely -- specifically the PG-13 rule -- this rule is confusing as there is no clear explanation as for what PG-13 exactly is.

This brings me to Rule 3, in accordance to the CR Forum Rules, Rule 3 is stated as:

3.1 Nude/Naked
~ Any form of nudity, regardless of whether or not the subject is covering their breasts or genitalia will not be tolerated.

3.2 Breast Exposure
~ Exposure of more than 1/2 of the breast, exposure of the areola, and exposure of the nipple will not be tolerated. Fondling of the breasts (i.e. grasping the breasts either by the character or by another character) will not be tolerated either.

3.3 Genital Exposure
~ No form of genital exposure will be tolerated. This includes fondling with undergarments, extremely low exposure (such that more or less 1/2 of the mons pubis is exposed) or visualizations of the genitalia beneath the underwear (where the labia majora is discernable).

3.4 Sexual Connotations
~ Any picture depicting sexual undertones, such as sex, masturbation, or any of the sort will not be tolerated.

Rule 3 should really be a subsection of Rule 2 or merged with it; this process will provide a definition of PG-13 on CR and the limitations of sexual connotations.

Rule 3.4 is where things are further confused. Does this rule prohibit double entendres -- messages that contain dual meanings with one of which may be understood sexually. Crunchyroll does not have a set definition for what obscenity is and as such, the solution proposed above sets one but it is still too vague.

Most of the staff aren't aware of the forum rules. They're busy with their own department on CR. I remember when Baker first joined cr, I was running behind him editing out his posts and merging them, since he kept double posting. When a CR staff is hired, I doubt they're trained on how to use the forums. Especially when most--almost all of the staff (There's a lot of staff behind the "staff page") don't even post in the forums. So it's not a big deal. Everyone makes mistakes. The thread is gone now.

Edit:
Why do user's keep quoting the forum rules for us?
We know the rules inside out, you don't need to copy and paste constantly.

There is nothing to discuss.
A member of the staff broke the rules, realise they had made a mistake and the thread was consequently removed.

Please do expand on the topic of moderation being inconsistent, just because a thread haven't been dealt with doesn't mean it won't be moderated. Which as I already mentioned, has been dealt with in an appropriate manner in this particular case.

As for the forum rules, no. They are intentionally vague, because we deal with incidents on a case-to-case basis.
Though from my perspective, the rules are not vague at all - They are crystal clear.

Rule 3 will stay as rule 3. There is nothing confusing about rule 3.4.
Is the picture in question implying masturbation? Then it's not good.
Is the picture implying sex? No go.

These examples should already give you a good idea of what is allowed and what is not. If you are still uncertain, and this might come as a shock - you can PM a moderator and ask for their opinion concerning the picture you wish to use.

Nothing will be changed. I know how AMPers are. If we give you 1cm, you will take 10 metres.

lol at AMP analogy.

How come the mods don't post in AMP in a regular manner as an AMPer not moderator? aside the fact you need to keep a professional front

Well, I can't really speak for other moderators, but here's me!!!

I deal with -quite- a bit running the Customer Service team. I mean, so much that I've even recruited a couple of our existing moderators to help me with that portion of the company & another local person to come on and help bolster things as we've grown.

I associate AMP with a headache... It seems like every time it pops up in my life it's because things are spiraling out of control or someone has posted some REALLY questionable content, or what not.

So treading in and deleting posts and sending PM's to folks about reeling it in and what not. That's what the thread is to me.

I understand that it's quite popular, and I appreciate that people enjoy the thread / are able to show off creativity, but for me. It's kind of like the person at the party who you smile and make small chat with but you don't really want to be caught talking to. So you excuse yourself for like... a drink or the bathroom or something...

If I were a regular user, I wouldn't be caught dead there. I wouldn't be an AMPer, infact if I wasn't a moderator I wouldn't even click that thread. It's boring, unfunny, and real spammy. I honestly don't see the point of that thread. I posted there once a few years ago, and once is just enough. Thanks for the invitation but no thanks.

Here's my take on AMP... I don't like it. Not one bit.

AMP, to me, is your typical drunken frat boy. the drunker he gets, the dumber and more outlandish things we mods have to deal with. and boy do you guys like to drink. and just like your typical self entitled frat boy, you get rowdy and whiny when you get punished for your inappropriate behavior.

so, in short, no, i will never be a regular poster in the AMP thread.

If I post a "What makes Space Brothers the best Anime EVER" thread will you guys get drunk and rant about how amazing a show it is with me?

AMP is kind of a stupid thread in general. That's just my view as your average, white starred Anime Member. I don't think I've ever posted in it.

I'm not entirely sure if this can be answered here but I'll give it a shot!

Basically I want to know more about employment at Crunchyroll. I know the HQ is in San Francisco but does Crunchyroll employ people overseas to work remotely on things such as Customer Service/Support? I live in England.

Any advice/answers are appreciated

I have two support reps who are international atm.

It really depends on the position / what it entails.
