I keep seeing your avatar. It looks funny and entertaining. Where is it from?

Asura: Let's just agree to disagree. I am not speaking for anyone else but myself. And, honestly, if you look at the two posts right below mine, there are people who are not moderators who don't like the AMP thread either. You're speaking from the perspective of a person who wants to convince others that AMP is great and should be embraced, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Wouldn't it be more logical to have it be placed here in the forum hierarchy: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumcategory-391060/pictures instead of in a discussion area, since the whole point of it is, you know, "pictures"? (many other anime-related picture threads seem to belong there.) Or am I treading dangerous ground and asking something sacrilegious here? And/or has this already been discussed to death elsewhere?

That was already discussed, but the move was decided against over here:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-647851/anime-motivational-posters-read-first-post?fpid=41390458

Actually, it was way before, but I don't have the transcript of the conversation anymore.

(EDIT- I really should start working on my English skills again.)

You just need to learn your way around a picture editor with layering options that can export animation. Like Gimp. Meanwhile AHTL is Kuu.... Kuudere that is!

Well, I make money from GIMP for gigs that I do; mostly, I only do stills. I am more interested in the cleanness of his methodology and skill in the animation; if this means he goes to square one, then by all means I'll listen. "LAWL"

you can cheat with gimp, in my experience if you create a new image then import the "gif" parts as new layers the colors come out considerably more vibrant and defined. Also it helps most of the image is static with no movement. It may help too if you start by using non gif images to begin with. There is also the fact that he could very well be using more powerful software like photoshop.

As far as tips go, I would really only have a few.

Use the best source you can get. In this case I went and got a larger version of the pooh and then downscaled the whole gif that way it is higher quality.

Take your time when cutting things out. I spent about 45 minutes on that gif and most of the time was spent cutting out the pooh and cutting off his head. A slight discoloration on the edge of something will draw a lot of attention to it and make the whole thing look bad, so spending those extra minutes cleaning it up will be worth it in the end.

Also, it is a good idea to learn the tools at your disposal. For the gif I used Photoshop. Some of the tools I used were the background eraser tool, spot healing brush tool and magic wand. But I also had to use the regular old eraser tool to clean it up a bit and the pencil tool to fill in some stuff.

For an example of how important edges are, look at the smilies with a dark background:

Perspectives and notes are always fun. Even though you know some of it already, it's different when you hear the same thing from someone else. "LAWL"

Yeah. Photoshop is expensive man. It's even more expensive than some of my lenses. "LAWL"

Noted. Thanks.

It is indeed very expensive, luckily I got a copy through a job I had a couple years back. I would have probably been able to do it in like 20 minutes but I got distracted by food. Also, that pooh had like a bajillion colors in it so it made it a little hard to select the head properly.

I stopped reading there. I already have a good avatar. It will never change. Never. It's been with me for a little over 7 years now. We're close to our 10 year anniversary. :]

Job huh? A couple of years back huh? A job that give you $500 activation keys huh? You's a young go getter huh. "LAWL"

Again, thanks for the notes. I'll probably try my hand on .gifs again when I get bored enough. "LAWL"

Yeah, it was a silverlight development job at a college. They were also willing to pay a group of 3 freshly graduated high schoolers $17 an hour for barely any work. I assume that it was cheaper for them since they likely have some sort of business deal, but still they were either really generous or crazy, one of the the two.

I seem to have missed out a lot on the conversation here. I've just skimmed through it all. Looks like beardfist was kind enough to let zen know where my avatar's from

Never realized I never had a real life role model/hero to look up to as a kid.

What's everyone else's childhood hero?

Do the Powerpuff Girls count?

All of my childhood heroes were cartoons because life sucked and so did people.
