I have always found that I remember things a lot better from writing them down than from reading them.

Reading is an important part of the process, but if you just read then you won't really take in the material. Try to write a summary in your own words of what you read. I find that I remember the things that I wrote a lot better than what I read because it was in my own words. It takes a lot more thought to write something than to read it so if you want to study the material again don't just go back and read your notes, try rewriting them or transcribing them.

Depending on what class you are studying for, writing down examples can be extremely helpful. It is also good to take notes during class, but don't just write down every word the prof says, try to take in and analyze what they are saying and then summarize it in your own words. If they are a fast talker it is far more important to listen and pay attention to what they are saying than to record it.

As far as flat out memorization of terms goes, I would say repeatedly writing them out and what they mean/do. Try to stay away from mixing in other visual stimuli such as anime because you want to reserve that sense for the material. Listening to some music that you are familiar with can help because your brain will affiliate the information with the song so if you remember one you often remember the other as well.

Try to not study for more than a couple hours at a time, but do your best to make it meaningful. Don't study in a distracting environment and don't multitask while studying. If you don't remember everything right away, don't worry, repetition is key. Always make sure that you comprehend the material that you are studying. If you cannot synthesize the material, then you are not really learning it and even if you 'memorize' it, it will be forgotten before too long.
