Does anyone else remember this movie? I sure do... let me just say it was a terrifying experience for me as a kid of 5-6 years watching this movie! Can anyone say mindf**k with nightmares on the side? I don't know what my parents were thinking when they picked this up from the video store for me and my brother, but they PROBABLY did not read the ratings or something!!  I mean.... this movie was gruesome!!!

Lol, I remember this movie. It's such an old one. Saw it back in the 90s. This movie, for me at least, actually seemed more confusing than terrifying. I think if I re-watched it today though, I'd actually understand it, lol. |

That was a great movie, I heard there was a live action version being made. I heard about it a while ago and haven't heard anything since, so I don't know if it's still being made.

Thats the first movie of its kind I ever saw in 93' before I had just watched American kid stuff tom and jerry and such. Akira was such a trip glad I watched it so long ago have it on VSH DVD and now BrD lol don't like the remaster dubs as much they changed alot of the voice actors so it felt different going from old VHS to BD.

Honestly, I really dont see why it has so much hype. Its just pretty confusing. The plots not great, the characters arent great, the animation isnt great (yes I know its old). I just dont really understand its cult status beyond its pretty old and alot of people saw it a long time ago

That shows that you simply did not undestand it. No offense buddy but this is a masterpiece.
I myself are sick of this kind of animation style since i watched it for over a decade but this is nothing but a masterpeace in every way u want to look at it and not only because it was the first OVA anime wich had a remarcable impact in the western world.

Unfortunately I think they said a while ago that they had stopped making it, but it was in development hell a long time.
Just like the Ghost in the shell movie that dreamworks supposedly has a license for, but has not been mentioned in about 2 years.

Cyberpunk that's like the staple of 80s movies. It felt like one of those movies where the creator wanted to make something that meant something to himself and not necessarily meant to be a best seller.

I agree, It did feel that way. Movies where the creators have complete creative control tend to be a little better than the ones made for mainstream popularity.
It may be 80"s but I actually wish there were more things with cyberpunk qualities.

I saw it not too long ago and while it was good, I think it is a far cry from the reputation that it has been given although expectations so high would be difficult for any film to live up to .-.
