Also, they should have stayed with the 'Star Blazers' title. They MURDERED themselves on potential nostalgia sales to please anime 'purists'.

Actually, the US disc release uses the title "Star Blazers 2199", so I don't get what you are referring to.

I'm just flat wrong. For some reason I thought they pulled the Star Blazers title.

No problems.

Originally, Voyager was talking about having a dubbed version that used all the old Star Blazers terms, like the ship being called the Argo. At that time, it wasn't clear if they'd keep the Japanese track and make the same localization changes with the English subtitles. Many of us didn't want them to change the subtitles. I would have been OK with those localizations for a dubbed version.

In the end, Voyager decided to go the cheap route: no real changes from the Japanese version other than changing the labels on the discs.

So, I think that might be why you got confused.

So, has anyone else here watched the movie "Ark of the Stars" (or as the official translation says "Odyssey of the Celestial Ark")?

I have had the Blu-Ray for a few weeks but put off watching it until last weekend when I could several old-time Star Blazers fans together to watch it all together at once. Long story short: we all loved it!

And as a bonus, one small detail in the dialog gave me an idea of how, if they get around to a second season remake of the Comet Empire series, they could re-introduce Dessler in such a way as to have some Gamilons deciding to follow him, and maybe redeem himself from his actions in the final episodes of the 2199 series.

Anyway, I'd love to discuss the movie if anyone else has seen it!

Yeas I've seen it, and it was really good, it kind of dragged during the "Hotel Yamato" part but other than that it was awesome.

As for a possible S2:

-I know a lot of people want Dessler back for S2, but to me he was pretty much irredeemable at the end of 2199, in the original it made sense because he was trying to save Gamilas, which put him on the same "Vibe" as the Yamato and it allowed him to see that they had things in common. The only way I could see them doing it effectively is to eventually have Sabella come over to the Yamato's side and Dessler realizing that the cooperation / working with other races is better than the conquest path he originally followed to realize Starsha's dream. It could work that way....

It's just when he was basically going to destroy Gamilas and kill a lot of people that he totally lost all sympathy from me.
