Post Reply Where to watch/buy Fairy Tail episodes 49-current? (Legally)
Posted 3/5/13 , edited 3/6/13

I was able to watch Fairy Tail episodes 1-48 on Hulu, but as for the rest they are only offer later episodes here on Crunchyroll with none of the old episodes. I watch everything legally, so I'm stuck in a rut. I'd be willing to buy the DVD's- I love it that much. However, they only have them through episode 48 as far as I can tell, so that's moot.

Also, I can only watch it in Japanese with English subs. (Dubbed anything just kills my ears, I'm sure you understand)

Anyone have some information that could help me out here?
Heck, even knowing when they'll release the next part on dvd would at least give me a little peace of mind.

Sorry, but there is no legal way. You will need to wait until Funimation releases the DVDs for season 2. Currently, Funimation has only licensed the first half of season 2 (episode 49-72) and are currently working on the dub. Most likely, those episodes will be released on Hulu and Funimation in subtitled format once they are finished with the dubbing and start selling the DVDs.

Sadly, Funimation has not purchased the remaining half of season 2, which means you are going to be waiting a very long time for episodes after 72. (Funimation usually takes 6-12 months after purchasing a series before it gets a DVD/BD release)

My guess is that it will take at least 3 years before Funimation catches up to the point where the series is now, and that is if they even continue with the series. If the DVD/BD sales are not good, Funimation will stop purchasing the rights for the show. The fact that they have only purchased half of season 2 hints towards the show not doing that well.

EDIT: And with the recent announcement of the show being canceled, we may never see a NA release beyond episode 72.

Assuming the series is ending (which given the apparent ratings in Japan, would not be a surprise) and not simply going on hiatus, perhaps CR could renegotiate the contract to allow them to stream all the episodes that Funimation does not have licensed.

After all, with the current license, if the series ends, Fairy Tail would have no episodes on the site 31 days later.

Seriously? Why are there so many people who despise dubbed anime? What sounds so awful about dubbed? I know there are characters in dubbed sound annoying, but by all means I don't see any problems. Japanese voices all sound pretty much the same, and the dubbed voice actors I think usually do a good job. Yes the Japanese are more dramatic in their screams and such, but that's the only thing I see that Japanese has that English doesn't. Fairy Tail's Funimation Dub is actually very good, and probably the best I've heard. I think the voices fit the characters very well. I'm sorry you feel the way you do about Dubbed, as well as the many other dubbed haters.
