What is it about?

Synopsis:

Tohno Takaki and Shinohara Akari, two very close friends and classmates, are torn apart when Akari's family is transferred to another region of Japan due to her family's job. Despite separation, they continue to keep in touch through mail. When Takaki finds out that his family is also moving, he decides to meet with Akari one last time.

As years pass by, they continue down their own paths, their distance slowly growing wider and their contact with one another fades. Yet, they keep remembering one another and the times they have shared together, wondering if they will have the chance to meet once again.

The manga adaptation has a sweeter ending than the movie, but the thing about that ending is that it makes you want to see even more after it's all said and done. That is where your imagination takes flight. About the movie (and the novel and manga adaptations as well), I personally thought it was a bittersweet ending rather than a sad one, I mean, they both accepted it and moved on. The manga ending made the ending less bitter, so I'm happy about that.

What is the point of some people meeting just later to have it end? I'm talking about when you meet someone you truly care for, open your heart and soul, fall in love, and for what? Just to have it end in pain and sadness?

Why do we meet someone just to have it end? What is the point of it all? How many of you wish could go back in time and stop your self from meeting that someone?

Just for clarification, you're talking about meeting someone online. Then you develop a repoire and you feel like there might be something there? If so all you can do is meet them and see how it pans out. Meeting people online is problematic because best case they're showing you their best side, and worst case they were lying and they're not the person they pretend to be at all. The only way to find out who you're truly dealing with is to meet them face to face. Hey, even if it was a total failure at least you put yourself out there and now you'll be a bit hesitant to belief someone's line of BS....

He's talking about the pain felt at the end of any relationship, online or otherwise.

In a weird twist I usually show people online my worst side. After all, online you can be your darkest self with little repercussions. (Unless you do something really stupid)
My best side is usually seen in person.
Unless i'm in a relationship with someone already.
Then it is a toss up.

That's just fucking life man. I'm 40 and I've been cheated on, and had my heart ripped out of my chest way too many times for my liking. My point was simply this. You gotta put yourself out there if you expect any results be they good or bad.

Well than if you meet someone in meatspace you already have an advantage. They'll be captivated by your sweet and sincere side in the real world

"It's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all."

Basically, the main points I've seen people making on this thread sum up to something around "Shit happens, deal with it."

That kind of goes for all situations in this thing we call "life". Shit happens, it's how you deal with said shit that makes you the man you are....

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
More like the silly, awkward side that takes jokes too far.
My best side is my creepy side.
