I always assume that everyone can tell how gay I am by just looking at me, but for some reason most people are surprised. I keep thinking that if straight people had better gaydar, then we wouldn't have civil liberties issues. We are everywhere, after all.

I assume most women are straight until proven otherwise unless they're really butch because it helps me avoid awkward situations, and even then with transgender people you can still make the wrong assumption. The world is a queer (pun intended) place and it is often confusing.

That's an awesome name... reminds me of some brilliant band but I can't remember their name... :(

The Foo Fighters?

That's it! Thanks! Wasn't their singer Dave Grohl in some other amazing band as a drummer? I haven't got a clue of their name.

Appreciated. It can be a bit different for everyone. My experiences growing up included my health teachers in Georgia speaking out against transsexuals and a lot of poor exposure to daytime T.V. like Springer. Since I've started dealing with it things have gone pretty smoothly for me, though I'm taking it really slowly and live in a very socially progressive region now. I started HRT 15 months ago and mostly go for a unisex look trying to ease into more changes. I feel pretty lucky that almost nothing that was holding me back came to pass.

Many in the US aren't as lucky, and are shunned by their friends and family, maybe thrown out on the street, fired from their job, harassed in public, physically assaulted, denied health care (both trans-related and not) to an extent that it has resulted in numerous deaths, etc... Trans* also are statistically far more likely to be murdered. People try to be themselves and don't really mean any harm to others, but receive a lot of harm in return based on unimportant differences. It's kind of depressing, but I think things are slowly getting better.

Let me rephrase: most straight people assume I'm straight, even though I have no interest in men, ogle women shamelessly, wear an HRC ring and have = stickers on my bumper. I'm not a stud at all, but you should be able to pick me out of a crowd as distinctively not straight. And yet for some reason, it's a surprise I don't get it. I'm sick of telling people why I won't vote Republican, eat Chick Fil A, or put my kid in Boy Scouts. Why isn't it obvious yet?

It annoys me. Unless I'm sleeping with someone, my sexuality shouldn't be an issue, and yet it is. Eventually I have to explain myself to my coworkers, friends, and neighbors, because if I don't they won't understand why I do what I do. I love it when someone has the guts to ask me outright, and hate the awkward moment when I realize that my friend/colleague/boss/whatever is treading mental water.

Thanks. I definitely like what has been happening with the correct hormones in my system, though I am sure it wont ever really be "enough." Facial surgery is definitely on my mind sometimes, though it costs a ton. Still tons better, though.

One of my friends down there refers to Atlanta as the San Francisco of the south. I was up in Alpharetta, so not too far away. All I remember of Atlanta is the Underground and the World of Cocacola, though.

Is it Bafetimbi? It's Bafetimbi isn't it...?

Yes... I am Bafetimbi Gomis.
No. It's actually Nirvana. I'm not kidding. I am dead serious.
Yeah, yeah.
LAUGH IT UP.

That's not bad at all, I went to HS with a chick whose name was Vajina (She proclaimed it was pronounced Vajinay) but needless to say every time we had a substitute it made for a nice awkward moment during attendance

I'm not sure what it's like there, but I think for many, presentation isn't always easy to pick up on because the lines have blurred enough that it isn't a reliable way to more than guess at someone's sexuality. I know a lot of people one might assume are queer on some level who are actually completely straight. For the most part I just try not to worry about someone's sexuality unless I'm attracted, to them, though.

Could be worse.... you could have a birthmark shaped like the Greek island of Crete there, which I may or may not have.
