I think that's crazy that someone can just watchtTV and pick up a language without taking lessons in it. I've been studying for years and am slowly learning it but putting in massive amounts of time. Ok that includes lots of anime watching.

I learned Japanese in high school via a course, and I have since started watching anime.

I know some words and phrases, and I consider myself pretty good at pronunciation. I know hiragana and katakana and a little bit of kanji. It's a slow learning process but I hope to be able to say a lot of things in Japanese.

I am an intermediate Japanese student. I have enough of a base knowledge to survive. I just need to increase my vocabulary and my kanji knowledge and I would be good to go. It isn't easy to find time to learn it between my job and everything else, but I can make the time. Watching anime really does help though. Getting used to hearing it and picking out words is a good learning tool.

I can only speak a few words. I guess it's not surprising, but this whole forum section is so asian biased. I'm learning German, and Spanish! just to shout out to our brothers and sisters

I'm taking a Japanese 1 course this spring. I've always wanted to learn another language so why not? I'm a bit nervous as it's been a (ahem) few years since I've gone to school for anything. I hope with time and hard work I'll eventually be able to learn. As it is I know a few words but the sentence structure still baffles me.

I'm able to write and read Hiragana very very well

But I do not know what is being said! I didn't study that! It's taken me a month or two just learnign how to write Hiragana, I'M NOT EVEN AT KATAKANA LET ALONE KANJI, WHY MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME.

Yes, but I am not very good at it. I am learning it at school, as it was an elective I chose (and will continue it throughout highschool), but the trouble is studying. I get lazy. I was suppose to study over these holidays but nup. And, also, I'm afraid of kanji, it seems so difficult >.< Especially when used in different combos of words >.<

Try Mnemonics. They help quite a bit, I found.
