I'd like to start taking classes soon. Maybe teach myself using online sources, but I'm too busy or I'd just watch anime or roll around on crunchyroll.

Every time someone writes in romaji, a little bit of the Japanese language dies.

I took four years in high school and i'm continue to study the language in college. I have multiple Japanese friends that interned in the US. it's not a easy language, especially with 3 types of writing alphabets, but it is a lot of fun-totemotanoshidesuyo!! what would you like to know? GAMBATTE!

In four years of Japanese in high school and now in college, nobody has told you to lose the romaji?

Haha, I am not able to convert my keyboard to Japanese on my labtop. on my iphone i switch it to Japanese while talking to Japanese friends. Trust me I know it's not the prettiest thing to look at but sometimes if it's all you can use then it is what it is.

Well, there is a really cool Japanese Word Processor program called NJStar (I use this program myself): http://www.njstar.com/cms/njstar-japanese-word-processor Using the "Symbols Input" option on the program u can input kana.

Arg! Unfortunately, my Japanese isn't that great, but I think u are saying this (I'll add my responses in Bold):

"Thank you" (although I think you made a mistake since I think it should be どもありがとう). どういたしまして。

"Do u understand Japanese?" はい、すこしわかります。

"And, do u speak Japanese?" はい、すこしはなします。でも まだ じょうず じゃ ありません。

"Do you study?" べつ に <-- I was trying to say "not really" but this was the best I could come up with

Also, what tense is はなしましょ? Actually, a better question would be: what is the difference between asking someone:
にほんごをはなしましょか and にほんごをはなしますか。 I know the latter is the polite form of asking if someone speaks Japanese.

Reading and listening comprehension-wise, I can understand most things that aren't really archaic, written in an obscure regional dialect, or loaded with obscure technical jargon, and I can write to the point where I'm understandable, even if I make the odd error. As for speaking, uh... I'm getting there slowly. I'm shy even in my native language, so learning to speak a foreign one isn't easy at all. I can get my point across in most situations, and don't really struggle with daily chit-chat anymore, but my spoken Japanese is often still full of mistakes, and my general nervousness makes me sound bad even when I know exactly what it is I want to say. :'D
