Do having to get shots scare you?
Posted 3/8/13 , edited 3/8/13
They (American: injections, shots UK: 'jabs') scare the heck outta me! I have to get some here soon due to the college program I'm in requiring them. I hate it because the nurse always inserts them like a frickin serial killer. The nurses always stab me and the needles are always soooo long. I HATE IT!!!! Then my arm is sore and I'm pissy the rest of the day.

Not really I know they are necessary to my health. The only shots I'm afraid of are the ones to the gums when you go to the dentist. Can you say "OUCH!"

These days no. When I was younger, maybe in first grade, I used to have to go every week for allergy shots. I remember one day I was so sick of them when the nurse wasn't looking, she was preparing the next shot, I bolted out the door as fast as I could and out the front door proceeding to run around the building like a madman. Took them a good 15 minutes to catch me and man was my mother mad at me. Ah thinking about it now makes me laugh.

Nope, not even when I was little

Not really. Considering I just got my nose priced a week ago. Needles don't bother me. It doesn't hurt as long as you don't pay attention to it. Distract yourself with something else. Now if you are talking about Yeager bombs, or shots of tequila rose, count this Cajun girl in!

I'm the exact opposite
I really didn't mind getting 14 shots in the mouth when my wisdom teeth got pulled, but there's something additionally squeam-inducing about getting it in the deep flesh (like my arm).

Oh my gosh those mouth shots do suck! I remember having to get them for cavities and stuff. Anything involving my mouth I don't like. Braces for two years was terrible with all the tightening and shots. It was like torture lol. But still I hate them. I don't care if they're for my health with how bad the nurses are. They won't stop jabbing me.

I know the feeling. I had a root canal a bit ago and they had to stab my gum to numb me. My hubby had braces for a time and they didn't even work for christ's sake.

^ The worse thing about gum shots isn't them putting it in but the numbing stuff that goes into my gums feels like acid going in. It burns oh so good. If nurses wouldn't stab me with a needle I'd be perfectly fine. Does the place where you get shots do it gently??

Edit: And now that I remember the gums do hurt going in it. The needles were pretty thick from what I remember.

When I was younger I was terrified of needles. I've had many surgeries done and I needed to have blood taken each time and then have an Intravenous needle afterwards. Having to deal with that has made me used to it so it doesn't bother me anymore.

Geez I know that had to suck. I've had to get one IV in my life and it sucked. Especially due to the fact my nurse had to dig for a while to get my vein. I've never had to have blood taken though, thank goodness. Much bro respect lol.

I used to be afraid of them.

That was up until their standard procedure of taking blood samples came down to:

- Inject in right arm, nothing
- Inject in left arm, nothing
- Wiggle around in left arm, still nothing
- Go back to right arm, they swear there's a vein there
- Wiggle around in right arm, them thinking this is bullshit
- If all the above fails, go to the right butt-cheek

It varied from time to time. When I started giving blood I made it into a game of Cat & Mouse taunting the nurses the whole way. I'm surprised they never just stabbed me to death with the needle instead. Most times they'd get it after 10-15 mins. Sometimes they get it then it runs dry lol

I tried for bone marrow but never got a reply

I think my body is just naturally anti-anything foreign. I don't get sick outside of a common cold too.

Yes. I have a deathly fear of needles. Being near a needle is enough to send me into a shitfit.

I also fear spiders and blood. You can see a problem with fearing needles and blood occurring everytime I go to get shots. Had my shots up to date, then on my last physical, noticed that all teens 16 and older needed a Meningitis booster.

Son of a bitch...I went ahead and got the shot. Needless to say I overfreaked. When it comes to the Flu vaccine, I was only required to take it once. I hate blood tests, and so I don't do them. I have overfreaked on most of my shots. Meningitis, Flu, the ones I got when I were 12 or 13. Only one or two shots truly hurt. But I still have a mortal fear of them.
