Post Reply I hate to say it, but I won't watch an anime if I don't like the artwork.

It happens to the best of us. Honestly, it's difficult for me to get into an anime if I can't get hooked in the first two or three episodes. If the artwork isn't fitting my tastes, then it's hard for me to stick around for the rest if the characters and plot aren't catching me either. I'm trying to think of an anime that I originally thought had terrible artwork and the only one that's coming to mind is Gurren Lagann. Over time though, I learned to love the series and even the zany animation too!

Artwork will discourage me, but upon a strong recommendation I can get over it. I normally would never have m bothered with Jojo or Kaiji but people said I should try them and now they're some of my favorites.

I don't add "animation" into my personal grading scale because I feel that it's unfair to give a show an edge over something like that. For example, I don't think it makes sense to give Guilty Crown an sort of edge over NHK just because it looks prettier.

However, I cannot watch a show if it's not absolutely gorgeous. In fact, I have a hard time watching anime off of Crunchyroll. The thought of watching something out of 1080p simply makes me cringe. I've passed up on many shows because the animation just turned me off.

This is true for me. I mean a recent example would be Ping Pong the Animation. I've heard really good things about it, but the animation just really turns me off.

But it's got so much soul! It's like the anime equivalent of jazz! Bad example since I don't like jazz.

But there's so much passion in the drawing! I love it! Not really criticizing just nerding out.

I used to think like that before watching kill la kill. The anime style was really different than what i was used to so i hesitated. I am so glad i gave it a real shot, would have missed out on something revolutionary.

Totally agree. I tried watching One Piece because of the popularity but stopped because the artwork just turned me off. The character design for Wizard Barristers killed it for me too. Apologies to any fans. I've been going through a lot of anime looking for shows I might like. I am a fan of artwork and animation too, so I like eyecandy.

I watch a lot of art in anime. I enjoy every anime because it is unique. If every single anime has the same art style, then it feels like no creative is in it.

True, it's good to have an open mind and appreciation. I grew up watching anime and certain styles just seem dated to me now and difficult to watch. Kind of like how movie reboots try to update the vfx and stories for the current generation. It's just a personal thing. I spent some time going back and revisiting old favorites like Gatchaman and Captain Harlock, but it's not the same, if that makes any sense.

According to the wiki I read once, Nami's breast grow throughout each arc and then reset on the next arc to do it again. (tho it said it was more noticeable in the manga than anime, but still in anime)
