Okay, I am not going to debate in this thread because nothing gets people more nasty than when they talk politics (just my opinion)

However since no one has contributed to this topic yet, I will post the following video so that maybe you could debate it:

I didn't know America was that bad. Oh well we don't need to be on the top of everything but at the same time we should improve. There is not much more to say about that.

about the link above: it`s great.
A very important topic: american arrogance (sorry, but there isn`t another word for this... I don`t mean to insult anyone)
It is true, that America makes itself out as the "world police" when it has big problems in its own country.
- Every 13 seconds of the school day an american child drops out (380 000 a year)
- Every 13 secs an am. child is reported abused or neglected (2.7 million a year)
- about every minute a teenage has a baby
- every 9 minutes a child is arrested for drug offense
- every 53 mins a child dies from poverty
- every 3 hours a child is murdered

- America has a worse low-brithweight rate than 30 other countries
- a smaler proportion of babies is immunized against polio than 16 other nations
- estimatedly 2.4 million children are involved in juvenile prostitution every year
- the highest rate of working children affluent countries, according to the National Consumers League
- the highest teen drug use of any nation in the industrialized world, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
- USA has executed more juvenile offenders in the last decade than any other nation except Iran and Iraq

America is:
- NOT one of 150 nations in the world to sign or ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, putting them in the company of Cambodia, Iran, Iraq, Libya South Africa
- NOT one of 127 nations around the world that permit employees to take pai (as in Canada, France, Japan, Germany,...) or unpaid parental leave to care for their newly born or adopted children
- NOT one of 70 nations that provide medical care and financial assistance to all pregnant women
- NOT one of 63 nations worldwide that provide a family or child allowance to workers and their children

Bush is trying to (quotation from the speech he held when he was "made" president) "build a single nation of justice and opportunity". But in that case, wouldn`t it be better to start within the own country?

Also America lacks cooperation, for example with the UNO. That, on the other hand side, blocks the scope of action for the UNO. What sense do edicts have, if a world power as important as the USA doesn`t follow them?
Take polution as example. As far as I know , America has the highest emission rate of CO2 and other ozon-layer-damaging gases in the world and yet doesn`t really do anything against it. What difference does it make if other countries try their best to reduce their emissions when american`s emission rate rises?

Okay, That was a lot. Is it of some use? I hope so. If I have another idea, I`ll let you know. You know, this would`ve been easier, If you had posted the exact topic of your school project...

So agree!

I have 3 american friends and they all hate their own country, one of them is in the army and hes in south korea rightnow and he doesnt want to go back to america. I dont like how america goes about in solving their problems. Seems like the only way to solve their problems is to go on war.

America may have the biggest army but if they go against China or South korea, theyre not gonna stand a chance, America is not as tough as you think it is. (as far as allies are concerned...)

Well you shouldnt say that, since if america wanted to it could blow the world up many times over, but im inclined to think that EVEN BUSH inist stupid enough to cross that taboo....
(if he does i bet he would go on television and say something like:"ohh i just wanted to order out some chinese food, you mean that red phone was for the nukes, oooh shucks well what do you expect me to do, use the phone to my right when im scratching my head with my right hand.... jeez give me a break*runs to his ranch and has another 9 month vacation.)

Btw has america FINNALY started doing the things that they were told to do at the Kyoto Conference? Or are they still all driveing around with Hummers and complaining about high gas prices?
