It's as much a waste as the Finding Bigfoot show.

But Bigfoot totally exists, they have blurry footage and random foot prints and everything.

Nah, I was just too lazy to put on shoes that day.

If I could live like a character from Fallout, I would.

haha nice. ^ But in all seriousness I don't know what I'd do. If I had a girlfriend or best friend with me it'd be bearable. If I'd just be alone I don't think I would want to live. It would be cool though if I could get the chance to repopulate the earth. Just thinking if I did that and years down the road I would be the guy who everybody came from!!! Sadly if I did repopulate everyone on earth would have NO athletic ability if that happened though lol.

I would toss aside my dignity and present myself to the strongest alpha male in the hope of forming an alliance. Young, fertile females would be as valuable as food. We would then seek out the politicians responsible for the catastrophe because they would have surely hunkered themselves down like cowards to insure their personal survival. And we would summarily execute them, thus removing all parasitic tendencies from the new gene pool. We would commandeer their living quarters and begin anew. We may die, but we would not die without a fight.

2012 Mayan prediction already passed, and my doomsday bunker got repossessed...yeah, I took a gamble.
So for now, I don't have a plan. I had a plan, but you know....

Whatever, man. I don't even need food and water to live. CR is filled with idiots.

"There goes the kids' college fund dear..."

That is the statement that comes to my mind on the subject. I've met a few preppers at shooting clubs/ranges. Some are nice and some are obscenely wealthy. In digression, in the following aftermath, I can either see myself driven to commit you-know-what-icide or enacting vigilante social cleansing.

I don't know if I'd want to survive but I'd certainly want the experience.

I do a little bit of prepping but the shows that you see on tv (Doomsday preppers and others) just seek to make preppers look like people who have something wrong in their mind like a hoarding disorder or that their crazy because their preparing for the unexpected in the future.

In reality real preppers are nothing like the ones you see on tv, most of them just have physical gold/silver (for bartering and preserving wealth), some hunting/water supply, and maybe some food stocked in case the local shops sell out in an emergency situation.

if you want to learn more about real preppers or are fascinated by the reasons for prepping or the subject check out these channels on youtube:

I consider myself a very casual prepper, In that why wouldn't you stock up on some food items in case of natural disaster, civil unrest, or zombies. Rice doesn't go bad if stored properly and it cheap as hell if you pick it up at Sam's club. I eat rice so I'll replace the stock as i eat it.

I've never seen the show, I've seen the ads and from those I think the preppers they show are WAY out there.

Even if you did prep, your food supplies wouldn't last long and you'd become a target for everyone else (who will probably also have guns and weapons). The ground may no longer be suitable for crop-growth.You'd probably just end up starving to death or dying from illness or injury in a few years.

Yes but assuming society collapses (which it won't) and I have 6 months of food stored I will live and you won't. People without a food supply will start starving to death. Those with food supplies will hunker down and you won't know they have food until they emerge after they run out or the rest have already died. If the rest aren't dead these people have a massive advantage as they will be healthy and strong where as those starving to death will be severely weakened by starvation.

Read the book "One Second After". It's a very good novel about the collapse of society after an EMP blast destroys all technology. It's not about prepping but rather about how people will respond to the disaster. I read it as part of my book club and one of the guys, much like the OP, commented he'd just kill himself rather than slowly starve to death.

I would go and get loads of food to stock up and then probably eat it all in the first day>.< out of boredom
Then die of starvation.

My husband and I prep a bit. Not because we necessarily think anything is going to happen, but for other reasons.
You never know when there is going to a be a natural disaster (look at the snow in N. VA just this past week and the power outages for 4-5 days or going back to Hurricane Isabel when my power was out for 10 days - that was miserable).
Or if your house catches fire, having a prepared backpack with food, money, and survival supplies wouldn't hurt...you throw that out the window, and then you go out the window (kinda handy).
Or in case you lose your job, having 6 months of food stored would be one less bill you would have to worry about while seeking a new job (and in our economy right now...maybe having 18 months of food would be better ).

Most preppers are not like what is seen on TV. Although, I wouldn't mind setting myself up to live off the grid with solar panels and wind turbines...again, it would be a lot less money I have to fork out for bills. Too bad solar panels are extremely expensive to start with...

I wouldn't waste tens of thousands prepping in advance, but I do have a first aid kit and non-perishable goods at all times. I think I'd only be really ready for a zombie apocalypse. I have many swords and a bunch of other weapons that might work well against the living dead.
