Sounds like the Six Strikes has a serious hole in it if they don't include "cyberlockers" since most of the people I know get them through there rather than p2p now.
I used to have a lot on the computer, but I mostly use crunchyroll or buy my anime now.

The law isn't designed to catch everyone. It's specifically designed to catch the most egregiously stupid among that group.

If you're out driving and the speed limit is 60-mph, and you're doing five over, a cop isn't likely to pull you over unless he's bored or needs to make quota. But if you're doing 15-20 over, you're an instant target and chances are pretty good you'll get a speeding ticket if you blow past a cop.

The "six strike law" is designed to catch the idiots that haven't figured out that the serious pirates have moved on from unprotected torrents and what not. And that's the biggest flaw with the Copyright Alert System: it doesn't punish the real criminals. Just the ignorant.

But that seems to be enough.

There are a ton of laws on the books that try to persuade people from killing each other. Yet murder happens every day in every community. People commit murder all the time. Laws don't stop it, but they do make some people think before they act.

The laws aren't there to punish the criminals. They exist to punish the stupid and the self-righteous.

Laws exist to regulate human behavior.

No, they don't. They exist to deregulate consequence. Nothing else.

You are just wrong, man. Laws are supposed to control behavior.

Six - strikes: always ways to work around it. ISPs agreed to it to prevent them from being the target of lawsuits.

There are ways around your browser being taken over by your ISP, look on the tech sites. Hard to stop ISPs from throttling, unless you use an VPN so they can not see what you are downloading, just measure the traffic. But remember ISPs are poised to be the perfect man-in-the-middle attack on handshakes.

Mostly six strikes is designed to keep the mainstream from getting into downloading instead of paying. CR provides more than I can ever watch and I pay for it because the premium benefits are worth it to me. All this said, I don't download other's people stuff that comes with a price tag unless I pay for it. Beware retroactive laws and they keep records going back years.

Phi Zimmerman over 15 years ago described how the internet needed to be encrypted communications for everything to prevent all this from happening as it is today and every time the subject has come up, it is stifled quickly. They want to collect info on you. Only way you can fight back, don't buy and encourage your friends not to buy from the corporations that use such tactics. Let them starve to death. Find alternatives and support them. Or pay for it. Try to stay legal.

No. I don't.

If you're in America, you should also be aware of the new "six strike law" or the Copyright Alert System (CAS). If you're unfamiliar with it, read up and learn:

- Here’s what an actual “six strikes” copyright alert looks like
- [Source: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/02/heres-what-an-actual-six-strikes-copyright-alert-looks-like/]

- 'Copyright Alert System' rolls out to catch illegal downloaders
- [Source: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-57571237-83/copyright-alert-system-rolls-out-to-catch-illegal-downloaders/]

Most ISPs will warn you, then take over your browsers with pop-ups so you can't do much online, and some will even decrease your connection speed.

The new system will affect people downloading fansubs who are not behind a VPN or proxy, so it might be in your best interest to take it seriously. They are not just looking for people stealing American movies, TV shows, and American music. They are looking at ALL traffic outside of dark pools.

So heads up.

LOL comcast sucks, good luck!

And you have 6 strikes? I only have 3. I already got 2 of them.

No, I don't. The image was from one of the articles I linked to. I don't download games, movies, anime, manga, TV shows, etc. Never really had the desire.

My friend literally had comcast turn off his internet because he downloaded too much and he ignored all of shitcast's messages. He just said he had a bo t on his network that did the downloading and they put it back on.

Definitely an admirable goal, but I'm not sure how it'll look on a résumé. You might want to set the bar a bit higher.

Hulu, Funimation, and crunchyroll have quite an extensive library of anime to view in a legal manner online.
They don't have what you want to watch? Try looking at netflix (not that great, but still more stuff)

Worst case(?) go out and buy yourself a lovely dvd or blueray disc. Even if it's not in the states you can buy them online from amazon.

I used to download here and there, but now even while I am putting myself through college I still find some spare cash to pay for a subscription and buy the occasional good deal for a series.

Nothing like having access to a comfy couch and a decent tv to watch Hellsing Ult or spice and wolf on with friends!

it takes less time to torrent an anime than it does to walk to my shelf and pick up the dvd
