How would the US react if a country we're not at war with sent stealth drones into America to kill targeted US citizens
|
How would the US respond if the other nation uses the same legal reasoning that the US is using to justify its current drone strikes? I'm interested in how the US would respond legally.

If the Chinese were doing this covertly, it wouldn't be too hard for the U.S government to pin it on North Korea, who has been threatening war with us for ages. North Korea would be a perfect scapegoat for the Chinese as well because they've always been like a misbehaving child. |

America has China kill off undesirables inside country, North Korea gets blamed. WWIII starts/Korean War resumes.
It's funny because it makes sense. |

Technically doesn't fit thread criteria because US is still at war with Korea, just signed an armistice.

In that respect my thread parameters are too narrow. Using N. Korea as the scapegoat would give China plausible deniability. I googled it and was amazed that you are right that the 2 Koreas are still officially at war. That's a long time to hold a grudge.

Well yeah, that is kind of the point of using a scapegoat in the first place. And yeah, remaining at war for 60 years is slightly ridiculous for both parties. |

^ When I framed the question I was thinking the threat would come from the mid-east. And I think now they would most likely be using old technology and hopefully American defense systems would be far superior to that.

If the Muslim world were to appoint a Caliph and unite with India, maybe we'd be view them as a serious threat. |

I agree, even this war on terror is targeted against a tactic rather than a specific country. And drones are certainly weapons of terror which would mesh with their methods. I read that 1 or 2 stealth fighters crashed or were shot down in hostile territories so I imagine China or Russia did some reverse engineering. |
