The anime that I liked the most in this category would be "Our Home's Fox Deity" as well as "Dragon Crisis".

Once upon a time "Black Lagoon" was a little known anime, and I still love it even though it has gotten more popular.. I guess?

Mayo Chiki
Shōnen Onmyōji
Intrigue in the Bakumatsu
Level E
Yamada's First time
Ramen Fighter Miki
Disgaea (the anime obviously)
Basilisk

These could be pretty popular, but I really don't know.

Lesser known than what?

As far as lesser sellers, F.L.A.G. would be a personal favorite of mine.

"Lesser known" in this topic seems to generally refer to anime that you mention to anime fans and they're like "wtf is that?", so I'd have to go with Midori no Hibi. If we're talking lesser known as obscure even by devout anime fan standards, I'd say Betterman.

Hyouge Mono. I don't expect anyone to license this series. It's a fairly slow and serious story about a warlord who's obsessed with art and tea. It incldues a lot of specific history references, and it doesn't have much in the way of spectacle. Since patience and maturity are required to appreciate it, I'd recommend Hyouge Mono for fans who are over 25 years old.

Ramen Fighter Miki.

That was a good inexpensive find. It's a shame that the official translation of the Ramen Fighter Miki manga barely got anywhere... (At least 11 volumes were translated into French by the company Broche.)
