After such a successful weekend and showing the numbers to our partners at CoMix Wave Films and Shinkai-san, they were so impressed that they have graciously allowed us to make more of Shinkai's films available on Crunchyroll YEAR ROUND! That's right! That means that Crunchyroll users can now watch 5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and Voices of a Distant Star whenever, instead of waiting once a year! (Movies will only be available to users in the US, due to license restrictions, but never fear, Global Shinkai Day always opens it up worldwide!) So if you didn't get a chance to finish all 3, then go and watch them now! Also, be sure to drop by CoMix Wave Films' Facebook and let them know your appreciation! Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Hey everyone, It's almost springtime, the time when cherry blossoms bloom, and that means that Global Shinkai Day is just around the corner! Global Shinkai Day is a world-wide online film festival featuring the films and works of CoMix Wave Films Director/Creator extraordinaire Makoto Shinkai. This year, we will be celebrating the works of Makoto Shinkai from Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17, for a special Shinkai Weekend celebration! We will be featuring three of Shinkai's works from the past, 5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and Voices of a Distant Star, available during the weekend for ALL MEMBERS WORLDWIDE (ex Japan). Tohno Takaki and Shinohara Akari are two classmates in an elementary school. During their time together they have become close friends. Their relationship is tested when Akari transfers to another city because of her parents' jobs. Both of them struggle to keep their friendship alive as time and distance slowly pulls them apart. When Takaki finds out that he is moving farther away, he decides to visit Akari one last time. Beginning with the lyrical image of cherry blossoms falling at five centimeters a second, Makoto Shinkai paints a breathtaking vivid tableau of young love, desire, loss, and hope. Told in three heartbreaking chapters, we follow the young dreamer Takaki through his life as cruel winters, cold technology, silence, and, finally, adult obligations and responsibility converge to crush the delicate petals of true love. Finding beauty in everyday objects and moments, Shinkai reveals he is a master of animation and haunting, beautiful storytelling. Fall in love with this gorgeous, thoughtful film, hailed by critics and audiences alike for its beauty, truth, and innovation in animation. It is 2046 when a mysterious alien force begins their annihilation of the human race. Leaving behind the one person she loves, Mikako joins the interstellar battle as a pilot. As Mikako flies further into space, her only connection with Noboru are text messages sent from her mobile phone. And so - while Mikako risks her life to save mankind - Noboru waits. At first days, then months, then years for each new message that will let him know whether Mikako is still alive. And, while she barely grows older in the timelessness of space, Noboru ages. The two lovers, worlds apart, desperately strive to remain connected as the gap between them widens at a frightening pace. A spectacular blend of traditional and lush 3D animation, Voices of a Distant Star is a technical marvel and a contemporary masterpiece of storytelling. Voices deftly weaves a tale of interstellar excitement and heartbreaking romance. Don't miss this new animation classic about the tragedy of war and the power of love. In school, they were best friends. And they shared two passions: the plane they built together, christened Bela Cielo, and a girl. Sayuri. Oblivious to the tense internation environment, the three form an indelible bond and it seems nothing can ever come between them and their dream. The boys believe that someday they will reach the distant tower - and touch Sayuri's heart- however far away it may be. But time passes. War esclates. Alliances are changed. Friends become enemies. And Sayuri falls into a dreamlike state that seems inexplicably linked to the mysterious tower of their youth. At the brink of a World War, Sayuri seems to be the key to a new world peace...or a frightening and bitter end to life as we know it. We're also very excited to announce a new movie joining our lineup for Shinkai Weekend this year, courtesy of Sentai Filmworks, Shinkai's newest film, Children Who Chase Lost Voices! When she hears a strange song from a crystal radio, Asuna tunes into more than just a magical stream of music. Soon, she is transported to a mysterious world where mythical beasts roam and brave warriors fight for their lives. Agartha is a land of breathtaking beauty and unimaginable danger - a place where, it is believed, even the dead can be brought back to life. But at what cost? In addition to being available subbed in English, we will also have Spanish and Portuguese subs available for Children Who Chase Lost Voices as well, thanks to CoMix Wave Films! Children Who Chase Lost Voices will also be available to all Crunchyroll audiences worldwide ex Japan during this entire weekend. Be sure to keep an eye out for our Daily Deal on throughout the whole weekend for a chance to get some incredible savings on the DVD and Blu-Ray! ![]() As we do every year, we also have some awesome swag to giveaway this year for our contest! Those are pretty cool prizes! (I wonder who won the Usagi Drop script in that CR contest way back when?) I'll hopefully watch both "Voices" movies, having seen the other two on previous CR Shinkai days in past years, but won't have time to watch all of them to find all the trivia! Good luck to those who can!

Lovely ~ last Global Shinkai day, I owned one (5cm/sec) and had already seen the other two (via Netflix on DVD, back when I got DVD's from Netflix). With Children Who Chase Lost Voices, I've got something new to see, which I am genuinely excited about being available here, even if just for three days this year.
