I'm thinking of going this year. If I do end up going, this will be my first convention. Has anyone ever been to this one or is going this year?

Just what the experience was like. Things I need to know or bring. I just don't want to be unprepared.

Oh ok, Well. The first time I went it was a bit overwhelming to be honest. Such a large amount of people in a single place was something I wasnt used to. Really, there isnt much you need to bring, just some money for food aand the such, and a bag or two will suffice. Expect alot of standing/walking, and i mean alot. Last year I had gone for 4 days and I was exhausted by the third day, given I'm not exactly the healthiest person. but taking regular breaks maybe like every hour or so for maybe 15mins helps alot. Try to look ahead and plan out what you want to do. I know with NYCC they will put up stuff like exhibits, panels, guests, etc. So you can get a pretty good idea of what you're going to do before hand. Like I said, to me it was a bit much my first time, but really, just enjoy going and have fun. Not too much info but I hope it helps, and if you want anything more specific, I can try to help.

Well surprisingly, some areas have no line at all. High-traffic areas like the show floor may have long lines, but some places will not. Worst part to me is finding a cool booth and waiting there for an hour or trying to fit in getting food with the stuff you want to do, but really its just fun to go.

I am going! I am super excited :). I've never been to NYCC before, but I've been to other anime conventions and went to SDCC last year. I've only been to New York City once before, and that was 10 years ago XD. Anyway, I am really looking forward to it. Of course, I am going to dress up

First-hand experience from a fellow Floridian -- the convention center is a communications black hole lol...
With so many attendees and just how the Javits Center is built, don't expect to get a decent cell signal anywhere. When I went for the second time in 2011, I told my friends that my phone will be off most of the time (very weak signal kills the cell phone battery), and that I'd turn it on for 15 minutes every hour, on the hour if they needed to contact me.

If there's anything you absolutely need to carry with you at all times at a con like NYCC, it's a cell phone charger.

oh yes... a camera is a must, too

I have to second that Sonikku. The sheer size and lack of cell connection or wifi means DON"T SPLIT UP! And if you do have a meeting point visible from any part of the con like the overlook or a massive booth.

I was mostly dissapointed with the anime offerings. They get secondhand and third class status. That being said I got to watch Makato Shinkai do a panel. That was impressive.

I went last year and I'm probably going again this year. It was my first con so I don't have much to compare it to but I had a lot of fun and met some cool people. It was also my first time doing cosplay (I went as Ed Elric) and I loved that too. One thing that's good is that if you're going for anime/manga, you shouldn't have too much trouble with giant crowds. If you go to look at video games and stuff, prepare for long lines.

Yeah I would probably go more for the anime/manga stuff anyway. Still want to check out as much stuff as possible though. I'm looking forward to the many cosplayers that will be there as well.
