Pandora Hearts Discussions

Hi internetz,
I was looking for somewhere to discuss the most recent "official" English translations of Pandora Hearts with other people that have read them... Without spoilers from those who read it online, where I assume all (?) of the volumes are available. Edited Ap25/13: The most recent volume from Yen Press was Retrace 58 "Puddle of Blood" to 61 "Demios" and was released in April 2013. ![]() Is there anyone else out there wanting to discuss this great manga?? |

I agree, but I'm under the impression that they aren't going to. The end of the anime went on a strange tangent that didn't correspond to the manga story line. Lots of cool things happened when Oz, Gil and Alice went to Sabilier that were taken out so that the anime could have some semblance of an ending. Which was kind of terrible in my opinion!
That is why I sought out the manga - I wanted to know more about what really happened 100 years ago and what motivated the Baskervilles to do it, who Jack Vessalius really was, why Alice and Gil lost their memories, etc. There were so many unanswered questions! I was able to start at volume 8 after the anime with no problems with comprehension. I highly recommend reading the manga if you haven't already Added April 25/13: So I guess I forgot to post the most important part - the reason I made this thread - the discussion! I'll add spoiler tags to the first page as a courtesy, but the thing I wanted to talk about was: Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide The fact that Elliot Nightray is The Headhunter!!!! Seriously, I was actually kind of mad about the reveal, because the manga eliminates him as a suspect when you see his chest in Retrace 53: "Humpty Dumpty sat on a Wall". Then in Retrace 57: "Humpty Dumpty had a great fall" they just negate that image saying he "pretended not to see what he actually saw". GRR... so basically they lied. I'm trying to savor this recent volume, so I've only read Retrace 58 and 59, but I'm loving how Elliot's past is explained, how he made a contract with his chain and how after all he said about hating self-sacrifice, that is exactly what he does! <3 Elliot is so my favorite character <3 If anyone else is reading, let me know what you think of this latest installment!! Maybe what you think of the "voices in Leo's head"? |

Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Humpty Dumpty erases/alters its contractors' memories. The truth was painful and upsetting to Elliot so it kept trying to erase/alter his memory (I'm guessing to protect him in some way), so it's not entirely like he was just pretending. But it was kind of a lie in the end just to prolong a little suspense and confusion. And yes, his sacrifice was so sad! I don't usually shed tears over manga/anime, but it had me crying. Elliot and Break are my favorite characters. I'm kind of worried about what Leo's true identity could mean for Oz and Leo's friendship in later volumes, as well as what's going to happen to Leo in general. Glad there are other people following the official English releases and not the scans. I'm so nervous about reading any PH discussions or even the wiki because of potential spoilers for what happens beyond where Yen Press's translation is. |

(So much for trying to make it last longer... Doh) Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide So Leo is Glen Baskerville... I always thought that it would be either Elliot or Leo, so I guess I wasn't too surprised. Since Jack and Glen were friends, I hope Oz will respect that and continue to be friends with Leo. I feel like Pandora is too short sighted and corrupt to be trusted - meaning I want Oz and Alice and Gil to keep looking for the truth behind what happened in Sabilier 100 years ago, and not just label the Baskervilles as the "bad guys". Obviously there is more to the story. Something that sparked my interest: when Sharon noted that Reim had no fatal injuries and wondered if his opponent had no intention of killing him. But then I went back to volume 13 and re-read his fight with Lily. She pretty much said she wanted to be friends with him, and then his chain March Hare tricked everyone into thinking he was dead, so I guess it isn't really mysterious at all. I'm still confused about Vincent's past... But I'm sure it will be clarified soon enough |

I'm still confused about Vincent's past... But I'm sure it will be clarified soon enough I usually plow through each volume in about an hour. It's too hard not to! And Yen's website sometimes has the first chapter in each volume uploaded before the actual book comes out. It helps ease the wait in between volumes, even though 2 months really isn't that bad.Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide There were hints back when Elli and Leo were first introduced that one of them might be Glen. So yeah, not too big of a surprise. Elli's death might complicate things between Leo and Oz though since they're both grieving on top of this new revelation. That's a lot of change and emotion that could overshadow reasoning. And Leo will probably undergo some stressful changes as he fills into the role of Glen Baskerville. The Baskervilles definitely do not feel distinctly bad and I have a feeling there's way more to their involvement in the Tragedy than we know. There's no doubt they murdered countless people, but the why is important. Lily not giving Reim any fatal wounds and wanting to be friends with him also gives me the feeling that they aren't the evil people they were originally made out to be. And Break mentioned that his goal and the Baskervilles' are pretty much the same, and we know that he's seeking to learn the truth (like the Baskervilles) and grant the Intention of the Abyss's wish (which has yet to be revealed). Exactly what the Baskervilles will do when they find out Leo is Glen remains up in the air and could easily sway whether their intentions are good or bad (though this also depends on Leo/Glen's decisions and orders). And I don't think Pandora is to be trusted at this point. Right now it feels like they are trying to hide the truth. Barma also feels a little suspicious. Though that could be because I just don't like him very much. It's hard to pin down most of the characters as either "bad" or "good". So far our knowledge of the Tragedy is very limited. We know what Jack and Pandora say and have a few glimpses from Alice's memory. That's it. The Baskervilles were only following orders and knew little else. Vincent's trying his hardest to bury what happened. Gil can't remember. If Leo gets the previous Glen Baskerville's memories, I think we'll start seeing things a little clearer. I think it was mentioned by Glen that each new Glen gets the old Glens' memories, or my memory is really buggy and not remembering things right. And Vincent's definitely a mysterious one. I used to hate him, but he gained some sympathy from me in this volume. Mainly because it's awful he wants to erase himself to make Gil happy, and he told off Duke Nightray for ignoring the chance to save Elliot's life in favor of studying Humpty Dumpty. And then he mentioned how great a guy Elli was and how noble he was even in death. But his involvement in the Tragedy has yet to be explained. I think he was tricked into doing something awful by that lady and he never intended to hurt anybody. It's his love for his brother that drives everything he does, and that means he would be easy to manipulate and possibly could do something that he otherwise wouldn't. Hopefully we start getting more answers with the next arc. |

Wow, I don't know how you have the strength to wait for each official volume to come out. It's too much for me, I had to keep reading more XP. The Official volume seems to bee around chapter 60 or 61 then huh? The online scans (I can't help myself!!!) are already on chapter 83. GARRR!!! Its kinda sucks that I can't really say much since I don't want to spoil anything. How many chapters come out in each volume? Cause if its 5 chapters each volume and they are around chapter 61, then the next two volumes are going to be EPIC!!! All I can say is that from here on out, it just gets better and better and better, and of course not to mention tragic. Gill and Break are my two favorite characters, along with one more person but I'm not going to mention who yet haha.

There's about 4 chapters per volume. With the way this last arc went, I have no doubt that things are only going to keep getting better and at the same time sadder.
I can't wait for volume 16 in June! Yen's got volume 19 scheduled for December so hopefully we catch up to Japan soon. Though I also dread that time since it'll mean longer waits between volumes. |
