It was just so...bad. There wasn't a single part after episode one that didn't make my chest hurt...except for the ending, which I must say, was both superb and wonderful, in complement to the rest of the anime.

Oh, man, I agree 100%. I watched that one like five times. It's just like...she dies in slow-motion. It was epic, especially because I hated...well, pretty much every character in that anime. I have the same feeling with the ending where Sekai pushes Kotonoha in front of the train.

School Days is certainly a poor anime, but it could have been good if it was a dark parody of harem anime (it managed to do this, but it is really easy to tell it was completely unintentional). The biggest problem I have with the anime is that it seems as if the studio behind its production took it way too seriously, which can be seen in literally every episode of the show (aside from the Nice Boat episode...).
If I had to give an opinion on it, I would say it is a bad anime, BUT it isn't the worst I have seen. There are far worse, but School Days wins by default for worst just because it is well known...
Then again, I am probably WAY over-thinking this.
