I do love my job. I work as a Linux sys admin (over 2 years now) and don't have to go into an office. In fact, my company has no central office - everyone works from home. I wake up at 8:50 am, walk over to my PC, login and voila - I'm at work. Guaranteed 8 hour shifts, 5 days a week and never any overtime.
Pay is good too with 100% of insurance paid for by the company, 401k, etc. It's pretty much my dream job that I never thought I'd obtain, and yet here I am. |
Inside every cynical person, there is a disappointed idealist.

Firstly, congrats, nnoland--job well done! Secondly, I DO love my job, despite all its aggravations. My own golden moment came in 2002, when I helped a lost little 5-year-old reunite with his family. I still cling to that moment to help me navigate and overcome the political overtones of my chosen profession, to remind myself that it's really about helping people.

Of course, after all...
![]() I'm a store manager at a bookstore and while I don't love it as much as I loved being a bookseller, as there's way too much paperwork and people managing with the new gig, it's still a great job and the money certainly doesn't hurt. Lot of work though, and I have to bring my work home with me more than i'd like. I definitely have a new appreciation for what my predecessor went through, right now we've got a pretty good group of employees but when I first started working there years ago they were apathetic, incompetent, or just generally unpleasant to be around. |
If I had a type it'd be you, fortunately I don't have a type so please stop.

I don't love my job, but I'm fairly happy with it - it pays well enough and I like most of my colleagues (the only exception being the wierd guy who gives everyone the creeps.)

No, scrubbing pots and pans is the last thing I ever wanted to do, but sometimes you have to do things you don't like to survive
