Do you consider "Avatar - The Last Airbender" anime?
|

I'm pretty sure "Anime' implies "Japanese Animation" in which case no, I do not.

No. It was made in America for an American audience. Nothing about it is Japanese except the fire nation' style of architecture and their imperialistic way of life, so no, it is in no way anime. Sorry, but I don't consider OEL to be anime.

No I don't. It's not Anime. It is an animated series or cartoon, but it isn't Anime. I'm sure you found these, but there are a ton of closed Last Airbender threads: - Avatar the last airbender - [http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-316738/avatar-the-last-airbender] - Avatar - The Last AirBender: Anime or Cartoon??? [http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-363714/avatar-the-last-airbender-anime-or-cartoon] Five or six pages of Airbender threads: [http://www.crunchyroll.com/search?o=f&r=f&q=Airbender&t=fc&n=0] Woof. |

No. Avatar is a fusion of anime and American cartoons.
Anime is considered as a Japanese animated productions. That already makes Avatar not an anime because it was created in the U.S.A. The guy who draws and animates the characters isn't even Japanese anyways - Bryan Konietzko. |

The short answer is that it depends on who you're talking to.
My understanding of the term "anime" is that it is an abbreviation of the term "animation", and so is used to refer to any animated work in Japan. It's only in other countries that the question of a work's national origin becomes relevant when choosing which term to use. As a consequence, in Japan Avatar: The Last Airbender could be called "anime" without eliciting any particular backlash or confusion. But in the English-speaking world there is a distinction based upon the national origin of the work, and as a result "anime" is reserved exclusively for Japanese animated works. This means that to an English-speaker calling Avatar an "anime" might be confusing, and so probably ought to be avoided. |

Avatar was a step in the right direction for American cartoons. Calling it an anime... I don't really know about that but it certainly got inspiration from them.
The action was very fluid(not stand still powerup battle of wills which gets used a lot cause its cheap to animate), interesting characters and setting, and the plot was pretty solid |

Actually, most of the references were from the east. From the name to the animation to chinese history and mythology. Gyava wrote: No. Avatar is a fusion of anime and American cartoons. The actual animation was done primarily in South Korea. |

Since anime means Japanese animation, I don't believe it is anime.

Ok, for those who say that it's not anime cause it's "made in 'Merica", then is the only difference from a cartoon and anime is the origin?
For example, "The Boondocks" is American produced but the animation is made by Madhouse. Aaron McGruder stated that he loves anime and one of his favorites was Cowboy Bebop, which is why Huey has an afro and can kick ass, mimicking Spike. and even one of the fight scenes is damn near identical to a fight in CB. |
