The pistol/scythe/shotgun thing just might be the coolest weapon ever lol

If I fail my finals I blame Crunchyroll and not myself.

I totally agree. Its a melee, mid-ranged, and long-ranged weapon all in one. Totally kickass!! |

Looks pretty neat from what I've seen. Rose Red/Red Riding Hood and Snow White were both very well done action scenes. Kind of curious to see Black and Yellow.
The song for Red is supposed to be hints about the entire series so from that I'm guessing Black ties to the Beauty and the Beast story and Yellow is the Miller's Daughter from Rumplestilskin |

I've loved the previews I've seen so far, and the trailer songs have been excellent. I think Rooster Teeth could do a great job on this; they generally do.
And while certain people will state this is not anime, it clearly is anime inspired. Of course, you can say the same about any show created in Korea, China, or some other place other than Japan. Frankly, I don't care about the "technical" definition. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. So, for simplicity's sake, I'm calling it anime. |

Well, it is "anime" in that the word is short for animation, however, the term, as we use it, technically implies a country of origin. It is kind of like Sam Adams calling one of their beers "Cranberry Lambic". It may have been inspired by the the Belgian beer style known as Lambic, but that doesn't make it a Lambic. (In that case, it is also a legal definition recognized in the EU. In order to be called a lambic, a beer has to be fermented in a particular region of Belgium, using particular fermentation techniques. Unfortunately, Sam Adams won the lawsuit, allowing the improper name to continue. What's worse, it doesn't even taste anything like a lambic! It is a decent beer, but it has none of the characteristic flavors associated with lambics! GRRRRR! Sorry... the former beer judge escaped for a bit there...)
I generally am not a big stickler for such things, but just "looking" like anime is not enough for something to be classified as such in my opinion. Anime inspired. Anime style. Anime influenced. All good. But if it is made by a company in Austin, Texas, it is not anime. The art form that Rooster Teeth does is technically called Machinima. the use of real-time 3D computer graphics rendering engines to create a cinematic production. Most often, video games are used to generate the computer animation. Machinima-based artists, sometimes called machinimists or machinimators, are often fan laborers, by virtue of their re-use of copyrighted materials (see below). Machinima offers to provide an archive of gaming performance and access to the look and feel of software and hardware that may already have become unavailable or even obsolete; for game studies, "machinima’s gestures grant access to gaming’s historical conditions of possibility and how machinima offers links to a comparative horizon that informs, changes, and fully participates in videogame culture." From their FAQ on their website: Q: What the hell? A: Yeah, we know. Q: No seriously. What the hell? A: Oh. We just write scripts and then use videogames to act them out. It's a new style of animation that some people call machinima. It allows to make weekly pieces of animation with a small group of people. However, the real key here is that, even though the CG animation looks like anime, it is not CREATED by the Rooster Teeth people. They are using other people's animation, rendered by a program that was not created by themselves, to create a derivative work. The scripting and such things are their own, but they do not create the visuals, the use visuals created by someone else. That, by itself, classifies it as something other than anime. It is similar to the use of sampling in hip hop and other modern music forms. It can be considered composition if done with sufficient creativity, but if you are Vanilla Ice (Ice Ice Baby = Queen and David Bowie's Under Pressure with different lyrics) or MC Hammer (Hammer Time = Rick James "Super Freak" - though he had permission from Rick to use the music...) It doesn't count as composing the music. |

I think RWBY would be interesting to watch. I love what Rooster Teeth puts out and I see the new series to be a success. Monty Oum, the creator of RWBY, is an outstanding animator, especially when it comes to fight scenes his old works such as Haloid still hold up because of the choreography of his fights, and his work in Red vs Blue Season 10 certainly kept that momentum. In terms of story, the previous two RWBY trailers introduced the appearance of the characters and their combat abilities. I expect the next two trailers to the do the same, so I expect the series to be a combat focused anime; although, considering the work Rooster Teeth has previously done specifically Red vs. Blue and The Strangerhood I wouldn't be surprised to see RWBY becoming a fully fleshed out series with a balance of excellent fighting animation, a deep plot, and some of that Rooster Teeth branded humor in the mix.
When RTX rolls by I'll get my definite review of RWBY \(^o^)/ |

I like the aesthetic choice in character designs and impressionistic environs, cell shading the style in 3D is generally a good choice and one I'm glad they made. The animation was reasonably fluid (I think), I'd have to watch the trailers again to be certain as to whether that's fact or not. Overall, I'm definitely looking forward to this, hoping it'll not disappoint.

While I probably wouldn't give it the time of day, the mere fact that it was created by Monty Oum piqued my interest. If it's anything like Dead Fantasy then I'd probably enjoy it even though it's just the same over-the-top fan service we're used to seeing.
