I highly doubt that.
A Plea for insanity requires a lot of work to prove and in most cases, it's a last ditch effort that rarely is believed specifically because so many people try it. It requires that you show to multiple psychiatric professionals that you are either currently insane or were in the time that you committed the act. From what it sounded like, the kids were attempting to rob the lady, as she said she had no money. Then they shoot the baby and tried to shoot her, failing to kill her. The kid will be sentenced life in prison and the child is going to be tried as an adult. Either way, I can almost guarantee that once they get to prison, they are going to be subjected to some of the most inhospitable conditions that we can provide them. They simply don't have enough money to hire the lawyers to save themselves or to pay off the professionals that would be examining them.

I just learned about that this morning.
It's pretty messed up.
My question is, how could the mother even talk about it? Let alone be so calm while talking about it?
Yeah, she was crying, but she wasn't hysterical about it. I don' know, if some dude shot my baby I think I would go kind of psychotic and go after them myself.

She probably has more emotional intelligence than you are used to seeing. There is no reason to harm someone even if they harm you to the greatest extent.

You're a rational thinker. She could, indeed. She does supposedly have 7 other kids. She could be trying to remain stoic for the rest of her family. Good point.
