I think it's safe to say AoT is getting better reception
than Sword Trash.

I, for one, started losing interest in SAO at around episode 5.
But AoT episode 5 forced me to read the manga because I
knew I wouldn't be able to sleep if I didn't know what would happen next.

SAO was Ok. It had too much romance. On the other AoT is epic!!!! The blood and the madness. The crazy endings of each episode that wants me to sleep till Saturday. It just sucks knowing that it will end at like episode 26. Unless the manga is continuing. I don't know about all that though.

My bad. Wrote before coffee.

So um, I guess you're a trendsetter!

(And maybe this isn't as common as I was recollecting, because right now all I can find that does this is:

http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-802203/is-attack-on-titan-another-sword-art-online-sucking-in-all-types-of-anime-recognition-for-the-season

and

http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-802227/is-attack-on-titan-another-sword-art-online-sucking-in-all-types-of-anime-recognition-for-the-season

but I could swear I'd seem similar threads over the last few months with other shows as "new SAO" but either my memory or my CR-search-luck is failing.

Just because I can, I'll post this here as well, since most of my post was relevant to this topic, and ugh too many similar topics.. *dies*

But now you are just arguing about semantics... When someone says "This show is the best of the season", they mean that for them it is the best. Saying that it is their favourite doesn't change anything but your reaction towards their comment/post/whatever. Getting upset about it in the first place is kinda amusing, for me at least.

Although to me the shows Hataraku Maou-sama, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU & Attack on Titan are among the BEST this season. Coincidentally they are also my favourites, but I actually believe that the shows I mentioned are among the better shows you can watch this season.

I would for example say that all the ones I mentioned above are better than Muromi-san & Devil Survivor 2.

So far I would say that AoT deserves all the hype it has so far, yet to be disappointed by the show.

Dissin' Muromi-san? I'm calling her right now...

Good thing she laughed! Trust me, you don't want to see her when she's mad LOL

Seriously, it isn't going to win art & animation of the season awards but it's really fun and the music is great!

I think the art & animation are better in Gargantia than Titan but it isn't about people being eaten every episode so I guess it loses out in the action category...

Though Muromi-san has some awesome animation too...

It isn't necessarily about action or violence. Just to give you an idea, I love Natsume Yuujinchou to bits. I've seen all 4 seasons and loved every second of it. It is probably one of the more relaxed shows you can watch.

I'll be honest and say I haven't seen Muromi, but I have a hard time believing it to be better in entertainment compared to Attack of Titans. I don't know if you have seen episode 3 & 4, I almost got tears in my eyes from laughing.

I'm not saying it is bad or rubbish, I'm just saying that it kind of pales in comparison. At least Gargantia does. I enjoy watching Gargantia, but it just doesn't compare.

You really need to watch Muromi-san before you trash it! It is really funny.

Yes, I have watched all aired episodes of Attack on Titan, Gargantia and Muromi-san. Yes, Attack on Titan has some great humor in episodes 3 & 4. Sasha Farted and the potato scenes had me laughing out loud. Episode 5 wasn't so funny unless you have a sadistic sense of humor LOL. In a way it is hard to compare a 12-minute gag show, Muromi-san, to Attack on Titan but since we are mentioning the funny parts in episodes 3 & 4 of Attack on Titan I would compare them with the gags in Muromi-san and both have me laughing out loud. Somehow, Titan feels shorter than Muromi-san even though that one is 12 minutes; Titan feels like a 5 minute short in some episodes.

I am really enjoying all three. Nyarko-san and Maou-sama too. Yuyushiki is quite funny as well.

Gargantia is beautiful and I can watch that again and again, already have watched all the episodes several times. Titan feels like one time through for me and for me entertainment value means multiple watches, something I want to buy watch forever.

SAO started out fine, but it went downhill after the series title game was over. I dropped it when Alfheim Online started as it really should have ended with SAO. Speaking of MMOs...I recently started playing RO2 and people persistently make references to SAO in that. Now THAT is annoying.

So far the only real gripe I have with AoT is that they didn't go with the name of the manga, or at least named it Advancing Giants or something because Attack on Titan sounds stupid.

I've watched my fair share of cheesy, cartoony and over the top anime with the aforementioned qualities in the characters aswell to know that the way characters in AoT are portrayed is quite refreshing. They're just so...human and I like that because it make them that much more realistic. Naturally, no one watches anime for realism but you catch my drift...I hope. None of them (with the exception of some characters, such as Eren) are over the top characters who aren't afraid to stand their ground even in the face of certain death, they experience fear just like any real person would and some soldiers even abandon their posts and run away due to that fear while some accept their fate and face it, and then you have the ones who fight despite the fear. The characters are just very interesting overall, even the supporting ones. Heck, even the characters who get introduced then die a second later are interesting.

I also happen to like the pacing in AoT. It does storytelling at a great pace, and whenever there's action it does so without making you feel like it fell short and if you need drama it does so without making you feel like it's a drag. As far as I'm concerned very few anime are capable of pulling this off with SAO being a prime example.

Currently, AoT is the only one on my radar but I plan to watch all the other spring releases aswell. I won't go as far as to say AoT is the best anime of 2013 just yet, but it's going to be VERY hard to top it in my opinion.

For My opinion, Yes in terms of popularity by Year. SAO is the best Anime of 2012 but in 2013, its different story. Meanwhile, Shingeki no Kyojin collected massive reviews on different sites, ranking it by 2nd or almost surpass SAO. You can't compare them because they are totally different. SAO can be still no.1 if they release GGO! HAHA .
