Isn't it already on par with SAO? I remember Funimation had a field day promoting it

I think it is definately up there with SAO and maybe even more popluar? This series has EXPLODED! And rightly too. Its just freakin awesome! Its seems to have a more postive fanbase all round compared to SAO. Personally as much as I adore SAO, AOT has just blown my mind and might just have the edge...Shame the cosplay is soooo expensive and I don't have good skills to make anything

I think it already IS more popular than SAO. And, tbh, SNK is.........slightly better.

Nope. I think. personally, Attack on Titan is wayyyyy better than SAO so I think it will surpass it if anything and become more popular.

AOT surpassed SAO, the ones who still like to make this comparison are SAO fans... AOT has a more mature plot and the animation is fantastic, the manga is also excellent... SAO has a large fanbase and will always be popular, but sorry, AOT is already infinitely better than SAO ... Now I'm just waiting for the announcement of a new season.

There are less people complaining about it than Sword Art Online, so...

Attack on Titan is light years ahead of SAO on keeping it real. SAO main characters were fearless about everything which, to me, weakened any interest I wanted to maintain beyond episode 12. SAO ditched most of the ancillary side characters which would have given the series some depth early on and turned the show into a Romeo-Juliet bore-a-thon.

Attack On Titan
gives the viewer a real feel of what it's like to be afraid down to your core while still maintaining a façade in front of your comrades fighting a formidable foe in a war-like situation. These episodes are showing real fear, real desperation, frustration, hopelessness. In fact I found the identity dialogue of Eren with the other Survey Corp riders exchanged during the cavalry charge through the woods with the stressor Aberrant Titan in hot pursuit quite moving. Of all the anime I have watched lately this segment of episode 19 is one of the most riveting cerebral celebrations of loving anime I have encountered. It even rivals the 2-minute ending of Episode 7 Flowers of Evil which I feel should be enshrined as one the most riveting aspects of a character induced emotional catharsis Japanese animation has ever produced for a viewer experience in recent times.

They both start with the letter "s." Any more comparisons is pushing it.

But popularity wise, SnK has a much more diverse fanbase and much less of a "you love it or hate it" balance.

AoT is already undeniably better than SAO, which honestly, isn't saying much. There's no point in saying why. You can just read a lot of the other posts here.

It already is, wayyyyy over-hyped/over-rated show that is entertaining to watch, but still attracts an inordinate amount of fanboys/girls.

Well, SAO turned to faecal matter much, much earlier than is now possible with AoT, so nope. It may go the way of deadman wonderland and not really wrap anything up at the end of the season, but even if it turned to crap now, it'd still be a good show overall. The episodes that are out now are good enough to warrant the series as a whole being pretty damn good.

AOT has surpassed SAO, and is quite frankly, better...

Actually, I feel like AOT has lost some of its thunder... it seems to be getting too slow for me. On the other hand, SAO wrapped up things too quickly. Guess you can't have it both ways!

Lol turn out like SAO?

Absolutely not.

The show is already too epic.

Also, it's far more brutal than SAO is, so I really don't see this turning into a love story. Besides, the world in SNK will ALWAYS be brutal as long as titans are around. It's not like they're just going to get out of the death game like in SAO, you know?

I mean it's possible to botch it, but I highly doubt that will happen.

My only real complaint is the total waste of the first 7 minutes of every episode, pretty much replaying the last episode. It's almost getting as bad as bleach with that.
