I think facebook is great for people who happen to be insecure about communicating properly with others. Personally, I don't care for it and find better ways to connect with people.

can anyone tell me why facebook is so popular and why people like it?
because i, frankly, don't understand why"

Do you agree with this or disagree?

Wow, doesn't that apply to lots of adults as well? If anything I'm more offended by that post you found rather than the pointless things people talk about. You only get those kind of posts on your news feed if you're friends with a bunch of 'moronic and despondent teenagers'. I don't like when people act like that. Sure most speech is pointless, but I bet that person can barely say much about their speech either. Hey, at least its consistent lol. Many things are meaningless in the world when you think about it.

I only really go on facebook to socialize with my family every now and again or keep up with news for anime and stuff really. Other than that its pretty boring. But I still end up checking it a lot lol. I never really go on there to speak to people specifically.

I agree with above comment. I'm only on FB now and then. I have a lot of old photos so check that out by other people. FB however has hooked me up with long lost family and friends. From A looooong time ago. That's abig plus. And purpose ofFB. So in that regard I respect FB. However, there is so much garbage and bullshit I have lost interest. I am not interested in what someone eats, events they attend or How cute their dog is. Borrrring. I like to hear from old friends and family and that's about it. Other than that it is "stupid" I have rarely posted a status. . On another note however, FB does not just attract "moronic and despondent teengers....." Thereare a lot o moronic adults. So I give FB a yay and a nay.

Facebook to me is pretty lame and boring. I found myspace much more fun because of all the customization. I don't really talk to my few friends and family on there and I really only use it for news, I never post anything on my timeline as well.

If it wasn't for my news feed I would've been closed my FB account. I post my stuff and updates on Pheed now more.

that post in and on itself is a pointless rant who no one wants to waste time reading
everyone is entitled to their opinions as to what constitutes something of real value or what is considered garbage. everything will change depending on who is viewing it. like the saying goes. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Facebook is just girls posting pictures of themselves in skimpy clothes and then complain about all the "perverts" commenting on it. Not to mention, people complain about their problems every post they make along with memes, in my opinion that is.

Like all things, the value in social media like Facebook is entirely in how you use it.

Personally, I use it because it's an easy way to keep in touch with my old friends and family I had to leave behind when I joined the military. When I come back from an underway trip, everything my friends/family wanted to say/share to me is right there for me to see, and I can leave messages and come back to them after a few weeks when I come back. I missed my niece being born a few months ago but I got to see pictures immediately upon my return. That kind of stuff is nice y'know?

Is everything that people say worth my time reading? Fuck no. Most of the time I skim over most of it, the easiest tell that something is worthless is if there is a picture with text written in it or some stupid notification that someone took another asinine quiz. God damnit that shit gets annoying, it clutters my wall so much I wish I could filter it.

Being against that though, I always try to make whatever I post on my own wall for people to see meaningful. If not meaningful, at least interesting. Nothing annoys me more than, "omg i 8 cake 4 lunch lol im so fat! ^.^" or "Gas prices went up again, god damnit Obama get your shit together you anti-christ Muslim communist!" posts, so I typically try to say something meaningful. I like to post interesting articles I've read or provide my personal insight to common social issues I've seen pop up on my news feed.

At the very least, it's at least getting into my head a little bit more which is what social media is supposed to be all about I thought. I've become notorious among my friends and family for my verbose posts on Facebook but I always end up with a lot of likes and people frequently talk to me about what I posted outside of Facebook, which is exactly the result that I want when I post these things.

So I feel like it's a valuable asset to me, even if it's riddled with a bunch of pointless, meaningless buzzfeed bullshit that drives me fucking nuts.

I've always thought it was dumb and unnecessary. o ^ o Then again, people my age only ever used it for dumb and unnecessary reasons. I tend to frequent Skype and Google hangouts more for keeping in touch with people, where the contact is more to the point and people can't utterly stalk the hell out of everything you do.

I'm uncomfortable with giving my Tumblr/DeviantART to people I know in real life, so I use Facebook to keep in touch with family and other friends that I'm not entirely comfortable with yet.

Though I rarely go on it, since many people from school find me on there and I'd rather not log on to a bunch of high school teen drama every day.
