Note: If it wasn't obvious already, this is a serious topic. The title was just to draw your attention

Steubenville Rape

I might sound one sided, you can always look up information yourself and give input before reading. Two high school teenagers raped a drunk teenage girl at a party while bystanders just watched and even took pictures. Apparently we live in a world where updating your facebook status is more important than helping a girl who is being raped. Twisted I know, but it gets way worst. There are many more problems to this case, all of which is easy to learn if you skimmed through a few lines in other articles and watch some videos yourself. I'll try to articulate all of it the best I can.

Many people in Steubenville claimed it was not rape because according to them, she consented. Some have also argued that the girl bared responsibility for what happened because she got herself highly intoxicated.... and because she was a 'whore". The alleged rapists claims they did not intended to rape her and that it was also consent. Photos of the incident were circulated, one specifically showing the victim with her back towards the floor, and being held by her legs and hands between the teenagers. Another thing I think it's important to mention is that, these teenagers probably thought it was NOT rape because of how the rape was executed. Regardless, even if they did not think it was rape, they did all shorts of nasty stuff like urinating on her etc etc (agh it's so disgusting I can't even say the rest of it). News coverage (CNN) responded with remorse and pity ....................................for the rapist. The victim received numerous threats on twitter, particularly from the relatives of the alleged rapist for "ruining their lives". And the list goes on.

I think this youtuber sums it up very well, much better than me anyways

That's the thing about law, and the people who enforce it.

Well maybe the people who enforce the law has less to do with it. Most of the time the problem in society today are folks for example who are witness to something. Like in this case there has got to be many witness but the witnesses will help the rapists and give a false statement to the police.

The police will accept their statements to be "true" to make their job easier. The witness will help these "star football players" of "Steubenville"

Can't win a case unless you have a very good representative, that's how things are being run anywhere.

Of course it is rape or forced sex. She might say * I am fine with it* That is a blind lie... Some people get stucked into mess they cannot get out of or deny. So saying anything else makes them even more vulnerable. That is just horrible. The details does not suit this forum.
Honestly why do CR have so many serious discussion threads like these? It is an anime community not a political or religious discussion place. Great that ruined my mood today....

The world is a fucked up place. It's sad that I'm not even disturbed by events like this anymore.

I always thought it was a pretty grey place if both people are drunk, one could say after they meant no but is that relevant If you said yes at the time? That said this case seems pretty clear cut from the OP, that or it's severely one sided writing .

I hate reading shit like this, and then see people, women as well as men, say there is no such thing as rape culture. It's happened here recently, some GAA star rapes a girl and all his friends come out saying 'he's a great lad'.

The cuntwads in this case even called themselves the 'rape crew' and then we see them blubbing in the courtroom as if they had no idea what they had done.

And western countries look on in horror at cases like the gang-rapes in India while the very same thing is happening in our own countries, with communities rallying round to protect the rapist. In the UK a few days ago there was a story about a girl who had been raped 90 times on one weekend. We'll never know how bad the problem really is because rape victims will see how others are treated when they come forward and then won't bother reporting it.

Some people think they can do whatever the fuck they like...

From what I've read elsewhere, there was solid evidence showing that she wasn't even conscious for it, which pretty much rules out any possibility of consent being given.
I agree with Mipegg on the drinking issue though. If it were just a matter of regretting a decision you made while intoxicated, that would be a pretty sketchy case.

I have no sympathy for the rapists in this case and I would love nothing more than to see those too placed in solitary confinement for the rest of their lives. I am absolutely tired of stories about rapists getting off easy while the victims are blamed for the crimes committed against them as if men are uncontrollable sex-beasts.

I agree. I can see that picture. Why does it even matter if she chose it? Being treated like that. No one should be. Some people say yes to things they don't know what the outcomes would be. This ones horrible. Then afterwards she gets flamed too? As if physical pain is not enough but also mental pain goes in there. Sorry if this gets too personal. When I read this the first time I felt that atmosphere that must have been around when that happened. This is just off...

Yeah, i remember this... That girl probably tried to get the guys off the hook so she wouldn't get shit from them or anybody else. Sad but stupid. The whole thing is stupid. The coaches, the girl, the boys.

Slut shaming the victim is pretty common, and has become a trope because of that. It's especially true in cases like these. It's disgusting.
