I'm new to the android app market and was wondering what the Crunchyroll community has enjoyed so far in terms of android apps suitable for Japanese studies.

I'm looking for anything and everything: IMEs, SRS and other repetition programs, dictionaries, translators, games, tools , JLPT preparation -- whatever you've had success with so far.

Ideally I'm looking for programs which are still heavily usable while in offline mode, as I'd basically like to load up my new phone with a lot of Japanese apps, and then reduce my data plan to its bare minimum.

These are free apps I use.

Dictionaries: These both use Jim Breen's WWWJDIC, but in different ways.
* Aedict -- Better examples and flash cards
* WWWJDIC -- Better drawing recognition when using Kanji Recognizer (a separate app).

Flash cards:
Japanese Verbs
Japanese Conjugation
Japanese Words
JLPT Practice -- Also allows you to take practice JLPT tests (separate purchase)
Obenkyo -- Wide variety of flash cards, plus contains grammar textbook

Writing practice:
Kanji writing game -- Can test how well, quickly, you write kanji.

Reading:
青空文庫 -- Contains a variety of classic Japanese books and stories. Entirely in Japanese.

I guess I'll camp onto this thread to ask the CR community: What Android Japanese IME do you like using?

I'm using OpenWnn Plus currently, which worked just fine with my older Droid phone that actually had a physical keyboard. Now, though, with my Droid 2, when using the romaji input with the virtual keyboard, the keys at the extreme edges of the screen don't register (not sure if it's a problem with my phone or the app). So, I'm left with using the Hanabi input method, which is just not very convenient for me.

I'm using OpenWnn plus too, with a very old Droid phone. From time to time, it locks up so I have to switch back to the default keyboard. Other than that, it works pretty well and I find it's predictive text to be pretty good.

Anki is flashcard program it is great. I also have Aedict installed. While I am in Anki I can look up a word with Aedict get example sentences and analyze kanji compounds . When I in Aedict I can send definitions to Anki. I forgot to say this is Anki 2 which is a new update to Anki and works a lot better then regular Anki. I just got my android about 3 months ago., and it is awesome.
I have an Iphone from work (they gave me)with the same Anki app installed and it is nowhere as good as the android version. Plus it cost $19 bucks for the Apple one while the Droid was free.

Ever wonder what the I stands for in Iphone and IOS? Idiot's
that would be Idiot's phone.

It seems I have most of the recommended apps thus far.

As for IME, both myself and my teacher are fond of Simeji.

I made a fully offline Japanese-English dictionary that can handle offline OCR too. It's an android app (of course) and can take Romaji, Kana, Kanji and English queries. I use it myself for reading Japanese letters in the mail.

You can link up to my other free Japanese translation apps from the app store too.
