what experiences have you had with getting your haircut, from most memorable time to just recently? do you like the place you go to get your haircut? do they do a good job?

i just felt like i had to bring this up because i recently was forced to go to to a hair cuttery because my dad said it looked awful, so i halfheartedly complied.
but i'm trying to grow my hair out, so i tried to explain this to the lady, but i guess she didn't understand at all what i was saying, and now i look like i have a 5 year old white boy bowl cut.

I absolutely hate having to get my hair cut. I don't really know what looks best on me and so what I would prefer to do is just go in and tell them to have at it and make it look good in their opinion. Them being professionals in the field of cutting hair I would assume they would know what might look best for someone like me. It never happens that way though. They never leave it at just that and want me to give them specific details about how I want each part of my hair cut and not only am I clueless about it but I then just stop caring because I get frustrated that I don't know what answers to give them. It's a bad situation so now I just gave up and get it cut the same way each time. So I can't say I really like or dislike the place as I have been forced just to settle either way but they do a decent enough job. I did used to get my hair cut by a friend of my parents and she had cut my hair for most of my early life but quite a few years ago at this point she just got too old and started cutting it crooked and making a lot of mistakes so I ended up not going anymore for quite some time.... This post ended up being longer than intended due to my haircut rant but whatever.

I cut my own hair. I haven't been to barber/salon for a long time. Sometimes I make my girlfriend trim the back because it's a pain, haha.

Haven't had my hair cut in a couple year.

The only bad haircuts I got were in college when my roommate would hack away at it when we were three sheets to the wind. I woke up with some insanely funky hairstyles. Despite that, I maintained a constant flow of girlfriends throughout my college years. I have no idea how though.

Rofl poor you.

I used to make my hairdresser and mum cry cause I wanted to cut my long hair short. Everybody loves my hair. She does an okay job, could be better but for a low price what do you want more.

OP, if you still have enough hair to form a "bowl", you should still have enough left to salvage into something better, if you can get it cut again. Hope doesn't have to be lost until it grows out. :)

A word of advice from someone who's had many years of experience with awful haircuts: don't ever just try to explain what you want. Nine times out of ten, it won't come out well. Find a picture that looks like what you want and show that to the stylist. Better yet, find several pictures of differing looks, so you'll have fallbacks in case your first choice(s) won't work for your hair/facial structure/whatever.

My bad experiences have come primarily from the fact that I have curly hair and so few stylists know how to cut it properly, but I've heard stylists themselves say that clients should always bring a picture, and I've had better results than "awful" when I did bring a picture vs. not.

Also, in my experience it's almost always a bad idea to just go to a random salon/hairdresser, having no idea if they're any good or not. If your dad chose the place, maybe you didn't have a say in the matter, but maybe you could have a say if you wanted? To find someone good, when you see someone with a style you like, ask where they get theirs done, or look up reviews online. The latter is how I finally found someone who does a good job on my hair.

Aw, I've had a lot of hair cuts I wasn't satisfied with too. But, I'm really finicky with how my hair should look. I tried out various places like Ulta, Cost Cutters, Great Clips, etc. They could usually make my bangs decent, but I never loved my hair cut until I started going to Altitude Salon. My hair was down to my waist, then butchered by somebody at Great Clips. So, I went to Altitude, where my friend suggested I go. My hair isn't even to my shoulders now, but I am very happy with the hair cuts I get there.

I always get my hair cut by the same lady at Altitude, but I occasionally trim my own bangs or add some choppiness with my hair thinners.

My hair wasn't cut much in my youth except to trim it all evenly and to rid of split ends. When I began cutting it myself not too long ago, I cut it short and then got the clippers to take the rest off. I was trying to do the style as in the picture, but it looks worse. I'm still working on how to cut and style my hair, so this is practice work.

I've never gotten a haircut at a salon. At least, not that I remember of. My mom was the one who would cut my hair. She's really good with hair, and she's not even a hair stylist.

I cut my own. It's pretty easy if you don't mind it being simple.

I remember when I was 10 I wanted to get a perm (was the style in the 90's) and the person cutting my hair was fresh out of school, she messed up the perm solution and they had to cut some hair off that was damaged...then the sides weren't even...then more hair came off....then the perm. By the time I was done I literally looked like little orphan Annie (I have red hair) ever since then I'm always nervous to get my hair cut.
